Is it possible that all Marine officers and most SNCOs were Scottish by heritage and Jewish by religion? Thrifty is too nice a word.
The Marine Corps has done so much with so little funding for so long that it has become institionalized.
What Mustang relates was/is played out in war and peace. Marines just do more with less.
Added to that, the Marines attract lots of "funny" guys..and now, gals.
I wouldn't want to mess with them.
BTW: Mustang, nice shot of the U.S. Rifle, caliber .30 M1. Semi-automatic, clip fed (8 rounds in a clip [note to journalists...a clip and a magazine are two very different things]) with a muzzle velocity (speed the bullet is going as it leaves the muzzle) 2600-2800 fps.
