The mission of a Marine Corps rifle platoon is to "locate, close with, and destroy the enemy by fire and maneuver, or to repel the enemy's assault with fire and close combat." It msut have been a serious lack of judgment, or a mass death wish.
A platoon of Marines,as you know, is typically 41 Marines. Since the Corp routinely inflicts casualties at about a 20-1 ration, the 250 insurgents were seriously overmatched by these 40 warriors.

I've been remiss in not checking in here.
What a good piece of news.
Speaking of "news" and the "fairness doctrine", this old Marine wonders why none of these things are reported in the MSM.
Oh, right. How silly of me.
The Marines now slated for Afghanistan are going to do there what they did in Al Anbar in Iraq.
Really smart, very well trained and physically tough Marines will get the job done.

An impressive and detailed account of battle and the heroic efforts of the Marines. Love your site and the background music. I was Navy, but had a lot of contact with the marines as I was a hospital corpsman. Will add this site to by blogroll on Penny Patch and Politely Patrician.

Great example of what can be done when we let warriors, who are called to defend, do what they do best.
