Gravatar Very nice, Mustang...Sounds like he was QUITE a Marine, and died too young.

Thanks...it's good for us to at least HEAR about our heroes...after they've done so much for us. Semper Fi, John Ripley. Your country is better for having known you. You will be missed.

Gravatar A beautiful tribute to a great Marine! It is because of people like you and John Ripley that we have the freedom that we are so blessed with. His accomplishments are many and his life a shining example to those after him. May he Rest in Peace!

Thanks Mustang, for celebrating his life and service to our country!

Gravatar When I was a junior captain, Ripley was the Captain's Monitor at HQMC. What that meant in a practical sense was that he moved all infantry captains in the Marine Corps that were due for re-assignment. He did a terrific job. Of course, Marine Captains, being the types they are, referred to the assignment process as: "Ripley's Believe it or Not."

His valor in combat...so very many times...are humbling and also an example for Marines in the present and future.

This Warrior King will be missed.

Semper Fidelis,

Gravatar Beautiful tribute, Mustang. We will be missing men of this caliber when this country so desperately needs them.
ike in this day and age!
Good morning, G*D bless and Maranatha!

Gravatar Even I, one from a non-military family, have heard of Ripley's Raiders. Perhaps I saw the FNC documentary.

It is sad that Col. Ripley has passed so young. But I do note that he enjoyed well over a decade of retirement. Many don't get to enjoy that many years after retirement.

May he rest in peace, his family be comforted in the knowledge that Col. Ripley loved and served his country.

Gravatar My last comment , from yesterday , seems not to have gone through.
It is very sad to lose such a one as he!! Another Marine, reporting to Saint Peter. May his family have peace knowing he fought well.

Gravatar He will be greatly missed.
