We both know that said Corporal was actually smarter than that. He knew it was the CJCS head and knew the Chairman wasn't aboard. What he didn't know was that some "effin" Navy Captain would notice.
This is like the cleaning crew at Buckingham Palace. Does anyone think that only the Queen has actually sat on the throne. Naw, when no one was looking, the snuffies will sit in the chair, throne, etc.
I will admit to doing so myself. I've sat in Ambassador's chairs, showered in officer's showers (before I became an officer) and generally made my own life a bit better when the person that some facilty was set aside for wasn't around. Was anyone harmed? Naw.
However, the snuffies must know - as I knew - that you must not get caught.
Zounds! You are shocked. You think me - Mr. Arch Conservative - allowing, even encouraging, violation of rules. Well, yes and no. I strongly - very strongly - support the notion of perks for folks that move up the pay chart. The perks are some of the incentives that encourage folks to work hard and gain skills so as to attain a better military (to some extent this is the same in any big organization). They are only for those who actually do the work and achieve the position. Saying that, it isn't a bad idea to let someone to sit in the seat of a helo, even though they do not know how to fly. It gets them dreaming...to what might be.
Note: As an "effin" PFC, I was caught by the Admiral, whose orderly I was, sitting in his spacious in port cabin (on the ship the Admiral and Captain had in port cabins and sea cabins, the later quite small and just adjacent to the bridge), drinking coffee from flag china and reading the latest magazines that he'd received. He was a bit disgruntled, but - clever lad that I was - I apologized quickly and fled. Note 2: I didn't make any mess. I didn't cause any additional expense to the taxpayer. And I didn't every get caught doing that again.
OK?
