Bravo. Well worth the deferral of your prose. You provide no solutions, but the problems you propose are worth more than solutions. I salute you, sir.

How about the Situationist cause? Surely it was ultimately a failure but that was merely due to the 'vague' nature of its ideas and people not quite grasping them.
Any hope there?

What about freedom? Of course, freedom is a played out cause and I would be the first to confirm that it is.
Yet, there are still so many parts of the world that do not have it. There are many more parts of the world that have had it and lost it. There are other parts of the world that had it and are in the process of losing it.
Besides that, what other cause can there be that is greater than freedom? Freedom enables any other cause to exist and occur.

Freedom is the fundamental issue isn't it. We are undoubtedly lucky to be living in societies where it can be taken for granted. The question is: what to do once you have that freedom. Situationists and the like have tried to find answers to this question through art-as-life. In Canada recently a father killed his daughter for not wearing the hijab. Freedom matters less to many in the world than group honour. It is not a clash of civilizations so much as a clash of values. Why in Russia do people democratically support a dictator? Stability over freedom. Freedom for us is a creative space to work with; for many, it is like being thrown in a vacuum that must be sealed by law and tradition.

It's also important to recognize that freedom means something different to everyone.
If people want to have a dictator, then they should be free to have one. That's freedom. If people want big government in their lives, freedom means being able to have it. If they prefer small, minimal government in their lives, freedom means having that as well.
There is no one standard for freedom, with the exception of not imposing force on others. Once force is imposed, that is a lack of freedom for someone, which is why murder is not something associated with freedom.
