I've got two terms for you: "Sexual Moralists" and "American Taliban."
Your point is absolutely true, though I would point out that the vast majority of "pro-lifers" are in punishment mode as sexual moralists. They feel childbirth is good punishment for sleeping around, and abortion would be acceptable in case of rape.
Then again, these are the same people who support the death penalty, who support war (even unjust, unprovoked war), who often turn their eyes from the suffering and killing of people not like themselves. I don't think anything they do is really about love of life. It's all about CONTROL. They want to control where their soul goes so they do what they think will get them into heaven, and not what they think is right. Maybe it's a true test from God to see if people have genuine morality in light of being told to do immoral things like oppress and kill those who are different. They want to completely control women, children, thoughts, expression - control people who are different than them - control money and society. They do this out of utter fear; fear of that which is different; fear of hell; fear of not being able to compete on a level playing field. And so they abhor freedom in all its forms and even decry that those who try to stop them from impinging on and controlling others' freedoms with their oppressive ways are in fact denying them the freedom to their religion. They would love nothing more than a society controlled by evangelists who drive them to suffer so that they force God to see their piety – they even want to control the will of God! And in trying to force their souls into heaven, so many have tortured, oppressed, exploited, plundered and murdered in the name of their all-good, all-loving God.
