Gravatar Henry,

I served with CDR Trens on the last cruise of the Rehoboth. He was a great skipper - treated his crew like no other skipper I served under. He did make my live tough - he avoided normal Naval ports (i.e. Subic) instead we hit Zamboaga, Cebu City - making logistic support difficult. You should be proud of your grandfather's naval service.

Gravatar Thanks for your own service, and the comment. I never got to know my grandfather, he passed away, went down with his ship before I was born. I barely knew my other grandfather (on my father's side), who retired out of the Army. My mom used to say that her dad would probably be proud of what I am doing , and would have loved to show me around on some of his old ships. Then again, he would have loved for me to show him around on some of the ships I sail on, in fact the Training Ship @ California Maritime used to be the USNS Maury (T-AGS 39).

Once again thank you for your comment about my grandfather (on my mother's side), and thank you for your service as well.
God Bless
-3 A/E Henry Scharf
