Sometimes these little breaks in the clouds when we walk through the rain can really help us appreciate the rainbow... trite but true... One time when I was at my lowest, I went for a walk, an escape, cut across some fields and crawled through brambles, struggling with darkness and death and questions with no easy answers... I was lost looking to find my way back to the direction of home when I heard the sound of shears cutting hedgerow and realised the field I was in lay at the end of a row of gardens. There was an old man, looking out at me, tending his garden and he stopped and smiled and said "It's a great day to be alive, isn't it?" That smile, those words, shot into me as I picked thorns from my arms and I glimpsed 'the rainbow'... questions with no answers faded into that moment of just. being. here. now. "yes" i said, "i guess it is" ...
