Sondi Darling

Gravatar And what parent wouldn't want their child crawling into Pokeman's vagina?

Gravatar OK, outta here.

Gravatar I was trying to get this post up on the last thread and by the time I found the wiki page, you had already did a new post.

It's 5:50 in the afternoon here and getting rainy and cold.
Will try to get with the group Saturday after we get home. We have to go to the local coffee shop as the lady that runs the place is making this.
http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cassoulet
She started cooking it this morning and lets it slow cook for two days. It is sausage, duck legs and white beans.

Gravatar Hmmm Keith...that sounds good. Have a coupla Cassoulet recipes myself...nover fixed'em yet though.

Hill-Ha Ha! Only in Japan....

Gravatar Hypatia | Homepage | 11.21.08 - 12:07 pm
Here it is one of the things that they have on the menu's all the time.

Clark has a simple recipe. He just buys the beans in a jar, uses confit du canard and the Toulouse sausage. Puts them on the stove for two hours on a low heat, and they are ready to eat.

Gravatar http://img401.imageshack.us/ my.p...ncapturewl4.png

Is it wrong that I noticed this?

Gravatar G'day.

Once someone is crowned the world's first quadrillionaire, he/she should consider mining for market the most expensive bottled water ever.

re: above comments --

Cassoulet -- mm, mm good.

Keith, have you seen any Lumeneos on the road yet?

Gravatar We really need a Nightmare before Thanksgiving post to go with Sarah Palin's slaughter house video.

I'm having a hard time thinking about cooking my thanksgiving dinner.

Gravatar So... I can't post here? What's the deal?

Keith in Southwest France | Homepage | 11.21.08 - 10:57 am |

Sounds great, are duck legs a common ingredient in a lot of dishes there, say, like chicken is else where?

Gravatar I, too, miss our long-ass-winded chat sessions.

We're still on for Saturday, as far as I'm concerned.

If that's not a good evening for you, let me know. We can always change it to another.

Later, gator!

Hill | Homepage | 11.21.08 - 10:30 am |

Oh yes, I will be here Saturday amigo.

Gravatar voxd | Homepage | 11.21.08 - 5:40 pm

I have not seen these cars yet, since we are so far out in the country. I'm sure they have them in Paris. I saw my first Smart cars in Paris in 1995, thought they would never make it.

Gravatar Capt. Bat Guano | 11.21.08 - 7:39 pm

This is the department about a mile from our house.

http://www.tourisme-gers.com/ ger...gastronomie.asp

Ducks and Geese are the main poultry, but they also have free range chickens. Turkeys and guinea foul are also raised here. Check out the site as you can get a good idea what it is like around here.
The department that we are in is the Haute Garonne.

Gravatar For some reason I could not get the links to open, but they do come up if you use the cooliris.

Gravatar Keith in Southwest France | Homepage | 11.22.08 - 1:45 am |

Keith, the beauty of the countryside is amazing. I am amazed at the amount of country side that exists in Europe in general, I kind of assumed that that very little would still exist considering how long humans have lived there. The pictures (the links opened fine for me) remind me of parts of Eastern Washington with a more abundant and diverse flora. Maybe I'll win the lotto and come for a visit. Thanks for the links. Have a great weekend.

Gravatar Good morning Hill where ever you are.

Gravatar Capt. Bat Guano | 11.22.08 - 9:21 am

Much of the country here is like the site that I posted. Because all of the jobs are in the cities, the young people for the most part leave when they graduate from school. This part of France was not discovered by foreigners until about 1990. Everyone wanted to be in Bordeaux or the Provence, and this area was just overlooked by most people. French inheritance laws also made it difficult for people to settle estates when their parents died. There are many houses here that are owned by French from other parts of France that look abandoned because the families can not agree on what to do with them. Since most of them are made of mud bricks, once the roof goes, so do the walls. This is the census data from our commune. Mind you many of the surrounding communes have less than two hundred people.

http://www.lion1906.com/departem...e-en-dodon- .pdf

It would be great to have you come and visit. Although we rent rooms in the summer season, the best time is in the spring and fall to come and we have plenty of space. As Clark has said "No charges for the regulars on Hill country".

Gravatar Keith-My Family & I hope to get back to France (Europe) in the next couple years...perhaps as a graduation gift for my daughter. We want to see Norway too...we'd love to come visit...will depend on the economy a bit (which seems to be going to Hell in a Handbasket..."and they might not even give you the handbasket" as my mom likes to say).

Gravatar Hypatia |Homepage | 11.22.08 - 12:01 pm

That would be great. We plan on keeping this place for another ten years. Clark's sixty second birthday is today and he will start getting social security next month, almost nine hundred a month, so this will carry us through the next few years if we do not get renters in the summer. I am going to be sixty eight next April, but I love this house and garden so much that another ten years is OK with me. When we came over here in 2002 we thought we would keep the place for ten years and then sell and live on the interest, but we enjoy having this place so much. We were in San Francisco for twenty years and the majority of our friends were gay or lesbian. Here it is just the opposite. We are finding ourselves doing more here than we ever did in San Francisco.

Gravatar Keith in Southwest France | Homepage | 11.22.08 - 11:57 am | #

Keith, thanks so much for the invite and please tell Clark thank you and a big happy birthday as well. I'm a paycheck to pay check kinda guy, I just can't bring myself to charge the outrageous rates that the criminals involved in my trade charge so we'll wait and see. Maybe when my house is done I'll find some extra money, I'm such a damn home boy that I've never been to Europe at all. Talk to you soon.

Gravatar We are finding ourselves doing more here than we ever did in San Francisco.

Wow, San Francisco is my fav big city...was just there last weekend! ( I went to school in the south bay..had no car so took Caltrain up for a low-cost fun day sometimes).

It's amazing you are finding so much fun in a more rural area...unfortunately the rural areas seem to be run over w/fundie type rednecks where we live...maybe we'll be able to find something if we look hard enough..

Gravatar Hypatia | Homepage | 11.22.08 - 3:37 pm
Just returned home from the Cassoulet evening. One of the ladies who operates one of the farms where they raise the Blonde d' Aquitaine was there.

http://www.blondecattle.org/

These cattle are originally from this area.

We were told that there was going to be a big surprise for the evening and it ended up being a fake wedding that involved this woman and a gay man who is a regular at the bar. The woman did not know that it was going to happen, and after she arrived they passed out printed invitations to the wedding and gave her a bouquet of flowers and played the wedding march over the bar speakers. They took wedding photo's also. We sat next to her for the meal and she said that she would never get married, she did not need a man.
The French do this kind of jokes all the time. Sometimes you do not know whether they are for real or not.

Gravatar Keith in Southwest France | Homepage | 11.22.08 - 4:37 pm

Sounds like alot of fun!

I checked out the Blond Cattle website...evidently they are the ones doing "Laura's Lean Beef" - we buy that when we can't get our local Painted Hills beef....

Gravatar Phooey, I don't think my link works folks...sorry.

Gravatar Hypatia | Homepage | 11.22.08 - 4:47 pm

Link worked fine here, but closed haloscan. Not sure what happened. Past midnight here and falling asleep at the computer, so may check in later. Good night all.

Keith!

Cold & rainy sounds wonderful to me!

Especially the rainy part.

OK, now about this thingie...

"It is sausage, duck legs and white beans."

See, that DUCK LEGS is rather creepy, as I picture it with the feet and accompanying toenails still attached...

Yep, glaciers on Mars and the mining of it. At least it won't destroy the trees with the merciless strip-mining we do here.

Hope you're having a busy Saturday at your store.

And looking forward to your weekly get-together later this evening.

Gravatar Capt. Bat Guano | 11.21.08 - 9:58 pm | #

Capt!

Oh, joy, joy, joy!

I'm serious!

Gravatar G'day.

It seems like only last week, but it was 45 years ago today (and can still vividly recall where I was) that a bright promise was snuffed out and the world became a dimmer place.

In other news, what do Galileo Galilei and John Lennon have in common?

Gravatar Capt. Bat Guano | 11.22.08 - 9:21 am | #

Haven't signed on until right now.

It's been a gray and hazy day, semi-humid, semi-warm, semi-cool. One of those days you're not sure if you should run the AC, the heat, or just open up all the windows & doors.

Gravatar voxd | Homepage | 11.22.08 - 6:24 pm | #

voxd!

That's right, today is Nov. 22. I, too, vividly remember exactly where I was when I heard that President Kennedy had been assassinated.

Now about that other thing...

Was John Lennon even Catholic? Would he give a shit whether the Catholic church "forgave" him or not?

Gravatar voxd, I will be making and taking that delicious cranberry sauce to Sondi's for T-Day dinner this year. Remember that recipe you gave me last year? Going shopping for the ingredients on Monday. Bet I still have that liquor I bought last year for the sauce in the pantry. I'm also taking a 7-layer chocolate cake I bought from my Schwan's dude. That's it. That's my contribution. She's ordered most of the goodies from Central Market or Whole Foods, not sure which, but all she has to do is go pick up the already cooked and ready-to-eat feast on Thursday morning.

Gravatar Hey hey hey. What's goin' on in here?

Gravatar Hill | Homepage | 11.22.08 - 6:33 pm |

Dollars to doughnuts you won't be taking all of it, but will be keeping a portion at home for yourself.

Matter of fact, my mother (from whom the recipe came) called yesterday to give me a new cranberry Turkey Day recipe she's bringing to wherever she's going this year instead of her Old Faithful one. Not sure if it's something I'd make, but here it is, just in case:

2 pkg. raspberry Jell-O
2 cups hot water
1 can whole cranberries (she specifically said to use the canned whole ones, and not the fresh ones)
1½ pints sour cream

Melt gelatin into the hot water
Stir and add the berries
Whisk together and chill until it is only partially set up (mushy but not fully jelled)
Add the sour cream and whisk that in, pour into your choice of mold, then finish chilling.

Gravatar Gonna go cook up some stir fry, BRB.

Gravatar Capt. Bat Guano | 11.22.08 - 6:40 pm | #

Capt!

I'm here!

Gravatar voxd | Homepage | 11.22.08 - 6:42 pm | #

Sounds good, but I'm sticking with last year's recipe I got from you.

It was so delish!

Gravatar Gonna go cook up some stir fry, BRB.
Capt. Bat Guano | 11.22.08 - 6:42 pm | #

OK, see you in a bit.

Gravatar Haven't given much thought to supper yet, even though it's almost 7 p.m. here.

Maybe I'll just go with a bottle of chocolate flavored Boost. Has all the necessary ingredients (including the calories I need) to sustain life.

Besides, it tastes damn good!

Gravatar I don't think the Halo yellow refresh bar is working tonight.

Seems it's some prob or another virtually every day.

Gravatar I've been on news blackout all day long.

Couldn't tell you one thing that's happened, news-wise, in the world today.

Awful, I know, but couldn't bear it.

Everybody should give it a try.

One news-free day per week, preferably on the weekend when there isn't much happening anyway.

I highly recommend it.

Gravatar Hang. Phone.

brb

Gravatar I'm back, gig bowl of stir fried noodles, fowl and broccoli.

Gravatar My dark T-day secret. I hate cranberry sauce as much as Hill hates chicken, if that's possible.

Gravatar While on the subject of Thanksgiving and Grand Marnier, may as well toss out the other thing I always make for Turkey Day.

6-8 large yams (or sweet potatoes)
1/3 stick butter
2/4 cup orange juice
2/3 cup maple syrup
Grand Marnier (or Drambuie)

Bake the yams (about 20 minutes or so in the microwave will usually do it).

When cool enough to handle, slice and scoop out the flesh into an oven-safe container.

Mash the yams or potatoes, mixing in the butter while doing so.

Pour in the O.J. and syrup and stir thoroughly. If too dense and mealy, add a little more liquid.

Stir in a few splashes of Grand Marnier.

Bake in medium oven for maybe 30 minutes or so, until there is just the hint of a crusting on top.

If you're one of those who likes melted marshmallows on the sweet potatoes, add those to the dish while in the oven at this point and let melt.

Canned yams can substitute for fresh -- drain well and skip the baking - just mash, add the other stuff and bake. Four cans should be the equivalent amount.

Gravatar voxd | Homepage | 11.22.08 - 7:04 pm |

Typo, dang it.

Should be:

2/3 cup orange juice, not 2/4 cup.

Gravatar voxd | Homepage | 11.22.08 - 7:04 pm |

Voxd, that sounds so good, I can feel the plaque forming in my aorta just thinking about it.

Gravatar Capt. Bat Guano | 11.22.08 - 7:28 pm | #

Oh, trust me, Bill Frist's name is akin to Satan's in my house.

The hospital where The Nurse works is an HCA hospital. Yes, a Bill Frist hospital, until he was forced to give up part of his holdings in the chain.

They give their nurses 3 paid holidays a year. 3! T-Day, Christmas Day and New Year's Day. That's it.

Not even 4th of July is considered a holiday. Is that unpatriotic of the Frist family or what?!?

Gravatar Hill | Homepage | 11.22.08 - 7:32 pm

Gravatar voxd | Homepage | 11.22.08 - 7:29 pm | #

Down 40%?

OMG, voxd, that's horrible!

I guess most peeps that were the usual tourists just can't afford a vacation anymore.

I despise Raygun almost as much as Dubya. And Phil Gramm, too. After all, their "trickle down economics" (pissing on us) is what led us to where we are today.

I'm hopefully things WILL GET BETTER. Might take some time, but we will survive and we will start traveling and doing that tourist thingie again and spending $$$$. I use the term "we" referring to the general public, of course.

Gravatar Capt. Bat Guano | 11.22.08 - 7:32 pm |

Yes, about 98% locals. Most of whom are cutting back purchases and crying poverty.

Pulling in the horns somewhat on ordering and stocking, but other than some long-time regulars who have moved off-island due to the economy and/or job loss/layoffs, still have my loyalists.

Gravatar Hill | Homepage | 11.22.08 - 8:11 pm | #

Good point, as soon as some thing is finished it begins to deteriorate. Ashes to ashes and all that shit.

Gravatar Capt. Bat Guano | 11.22.08 - 8:13 pm | #

Is it really?

I didn't know that.

Learn new things everyday. Some days more than others, of course....

Gravatar Capt. Bat Guano | 11.22.08 - 8:15 pm | #

Ashes to ashes.

That's just part of life.

All my pets, with the exception of Balless Bob, are getting old now. I dread when "that" day arrives.

Ashes to ashes.

Gravatar Hill | Homepage | 11.22.08 - 8:15 pm

Yes, the whole thing is thinking that your THE shit one moment and then thinking that you are SHIT the next. Bad roller coaster and hard to get off. I'm okay with most of the time but I can still get really pissed at myself for making a stupid human mistake.

Gravatar Hill | Homepage | 11.22.08 - 8:17 pm

I know exactly how your feeling, my little princess is about 11 years old and her diabetes isn't going to help your reach old age. I don't know what to expect either and haven't tried to find out. Maybe ignorance is better?

Gravatar So, any bets on when General Motors is re-christened Lieutenant Motors?

Or when Motown is changed to Lesstown?

Just askin'.

Gravatar Capt. Bat Guano | 11.22.08 - 8:17 pm | #

Bad roller coaster.

I'm really proud of you, Capt. Even when you get really pissed at yourself for making a human mistake.

Sobriety, baby!

Gravatar Sobriety, baby!

Hill | Homepage | 11.22.08 - 8:20 pm | #

It ain't for the weak.

Gravatar voxd | Homepage | 11.22.08 - 8:20 pm

Or when The Big Apple becomes The Crab Apple.

Gravatar voxd | Homepage | 11.22.08 - 8:20 pm

Could it all be a plot to bust the UAW? These neocons are awfully good at sneaky shit like that.

Gravatar Most eye-popping comparison I've come across lately is that, in terms of total current corporate value, Mattel is now worth more than is GM.

Gravatar Oh Hill, a new blog site huh? When do you think it'll be done. I have to get my own site for my business, the place that I was hosted through did some big change and my friend who was running my portfolio can't get my pics reloaded, and the guys a software engineer.

Gravatar voxd | Homepage | 11.22.08 - 8:26 pm

For the price of a latte you can buy 2 or 3 shares of GM.

Gravatar Capt. Bat Guano | 11.22.08 - 8:20 pm | #

I don't know about diabetes in cats, Capt. Don't know what signs they exhibit when the end is near.

When my beloved Maltese, Chelsea, died, she screamed and fell to the floor & couldn't stand on her legs. The Nurse ran & got his stethoscope and listened to her heart and then he just put his arms around me and let me scream and cry and pound his chest with my fists. This happened near midnight.

I sat up with her in my lap all night long, and the next morning, we took her to the vet to have her put down. Her magnificent heart had finally failed and it was the humane thing to do.

We were with her when the vet injected the fatal dose of meds into her. I held her until it was over. Didn't take but a couple of minutes, then I had her privately cremated and have her ashes in a little wooden box here in my office, right beside her picture.

After all these years, I still grieve on the anniversary of her death and smile on all the other days when I look at her picture or think of her.

Gravatar Capt. Bat Guano | 11.22.08 - 8:21 pm | #

No shit!

Blessed here that that is one awful disease I've managed NOT to get.

Gravatar Hill | Homepage | 11.22.08 - 8:28 pm | #

My kitty before Phoelyx was named Raven by my friend who commited suicide. I took her in after my friend died. She was a little black runt but full of piss and vinegar, liked to take on big dogs. I put a lot of time and money into her during her last year, I came home one day and she was dragging her self to the door to greet me like she always would do. I knew then that it was time. Took her to vet a few days later since she wasn't in any pain. Had her cremated and spread her ashes in the sunny part of the yard where she liked to lay.

Gravatar Capt. Bat Guano | 11.22.08 - 8:27 pm | #

Not sure on the completion date, Capt.

I'm taking it slow, only working on it when I genuinely feel like it.

I literally looked through thousands of Blogger templates before I found the perfect one.

Tried a test post on Wordpress.com, and HATED it. Can't stand their commenting system and their rigidity on adding widgets.

Wordpress.org, I hear, is way better. It supports outside commenting systems like Halo, but it costs $$$ because you have to buy a domain name and a host, and those things aren't cheap, despite what Big Daddy advertises.

Sounds like if your friend can't get your pics reloaded, you may have to start another site from scratch.

That could be a good thing. Or not.

Gravatar Hill | Homepage | 11.22.08 - 8:29 pm

It's supposedly genetic so you prolly don't need to worry.

Gravatar Capt. Bat Guano | 11.22.08 - 8:33 pm | #

Damn, Capt!

Made me tear up.

Gravatar Hill | Homepage | 11.22.08 - 8:35 pm |

Sorry about that. I still miss her to this day. She liked to travel in the car and would go with me to Seattle and live in strange houses with no troubles at all. Just had to show her where her bowl and cat box where and she was cool.

Gravatar Capt. Bat Guano | 11.22.08 - 8:34 pm | #

That's what I hear.

Terrible disease, though. Wish I cure could be found for it, like a vaccine or something.

Same thing for diabetes. From what The Nurse tells me, it's a really terrible disease, and as he puts it, you die in pieces. First, you get a foot amputated, then the other, then all the way up to the knees, sometimes to the hips, etc.

Terrible disease.

Gravatar Hey, I got to go look at a job real quick, will you be hanging out for a while longer?

Gravatar Capt. Bat Guano | 11.22.08 - 8:37 pm | #

Oh, no, don't be sorry. Those were the good kind of tears.

She sounds like she was a wonderful pet.

And you were and are a good pet Daddy.

Gravatar Hill | Homepage | 11.22.08 - 8:38 pm |

Fuck that, after the feet I would just turn out the big light on myself.

Gravatar Capt. Bat Guano | 11.22.08 - 8:38 pm | #

I'll be here until 9 p.m. my time. It's now 8:35 p.m.

Go on and do your thing, Capt.

If I'm gone by the time you get back, know this.

I truly enjoyed tonight. We'll make this a weekly thing.

I swear!

Now git!

Gravatar Hill | Homepage | 11.22.08 - 8:39 pm | #

I was born with what I call the Dr. Doolittle gene, scaredy cats and mean dogs love me. I have people tell me all the time that their cat never lets strangers pet them and what ever.

Gravatar Capt. Bat Guano | 11.22.08 - 8:40 pm | #

Ain't it awful?

Lordy, I love my feet. Love to walk around & see stuff, you know?

Gravatar Hill | Homepage | 11.22.08 - 8:41 pm | #

I'll just say ditto and good night now dear. This guy is really nice and quite the yalker, and so am I.

Gravatar Capt. Bat Guano | 11.22.08 - 8:42 pm | #

Capt. Doolittle!

Now go on and see about your job thingie.

Gravatar Good night to you Voxd, I hope business is good for you in the near future.

Well, you 2 enjoy yourselves and I'll see you soon!

Gravatar Later dude and dudette, and lurkers to.

Gravatar Later, gator!

Gravatar Well, I was gonna stay until 9, but The Nurse just got home from work so I'm gonna go visit with him for a bit.

voxd, hope you've got lots of customers right now. Enjoy your get-together tonight, too!

Niters, everyone.

Gravatar Capt. Bat Guano | 11.22.08 - 8:23 pm |

In their world, that would be a welcome outcome. But no, I don't give them credit for instigating the situation.

Incidentally, when they talk about the UAW wages, they're almost always lying. See here:

http://www.tnr.com/politics/stor...f2- 56dfc3323682

for a more realistic layout of the hourly wage situation.

Gravatar Hill, you might take a look at the bloghost I use:

http://www.blogsome.com

Free, and you don't have to use their commenting system (or if you do, it can be set to not use the visual verification thingie), but can add in Halo if you want.

Also has a fairly wide choice of templates available.

Gravatar Hill | Homepage | 11.22.08 - 8:49 pm |

Thank you, and good night, all.

Gravatar Not sure who is still on, I can see from the last comment at 9:01 that voxd was here. Insomnia here so decided to check this place out.

Gravatar I wish in insomnia would have started an hour earlier...

Gravatar I am going to read all the comments so will check back down here once in a while to see if anyone is here.

Gravatar Hi, Keith. Only a bit past 5 p.m. here. Will be around for a bit.

Gravatar voxd | Homepage | 11.22.08 - 9:28 pm

I just copied your cranberry receipt onto a text doc in open office and saved it. It is 4:26 in the morning here.

Gravatar Hill | Homepage | 11.22.08 - 6:47 pm

OK what the hell is boost???

Gravatar At the yam recipe now, that sounds like one I will try. We refuse to do Thanksgiving over here. Just too American for us...

Gravatar < Keith in Southwest France | Homepage | 11.22.08 - 9:31 pm |

If you'd like, here's the one I gave Hill last year, which she seems to like.

Make this the day before Thanksgiving, as it needs to gel overnight.

No problem playing around with the amounts of ingredients, but don't
go way overboard on the liquids, as it will become too soupy.

1 small (flat) can crushed pineapple: Open and drain. Discard the
liquid. Set aside the crushed pineapple for now.

1 bag of fresh cranberries (whole): wash them drain, and dry throughly.

Put the berries into an oversize microwave-safe bowl. Cover the bowl
with wax paper to prevent spattering.

Microwave about 8 - 10 minutes, or until the are soft and squishy.

Let cool a little bit, then mash them thoroughly with a potato masher.

While the mashed berries are still warm/hot, add 1 cup orange juice
and stir (a whisk works well for this).

Add the drained crushed pineapple and also 1 cup sugar and stir thoroughly.

Add about 1/2 cup or so walnut pieces. Stir.

Add a couple of splashes (2 or 3 tbl.) of either Drambuie or Grand
Marinier or brandy. Stir thoroughly.

Taste test. If too tart, stir in more sugar.

Let cool some more, transfer to a smaller bowl and cover tightly with
plastic wrap.

Refrigerate at least overnight. The mix will gel by itself over that time.

Taste test again when it is cold and is firming up, and stir in more
sugar if needed.

Gravatar voxd | Homepage | 11.22.08 - 9:39 pm

I copied and saved this one last year. Clark made it and everyone we have fed it too liked it.

Gravatar Keith in Southwest France | Homepage | 11.22.08 - 9:45 pm |

Bon apetit.

Gravatar The one this year sounds easier though.

Gravatar BTW, I suspect that creme fraiche might substitute well for the sour cream in the other recipe.

Might be an interesting experiment.

Gravatar That's what Clark uses. That was a big challenge for him, trying to find out what to sub for various ingredients.

Gravatar Not with the sour cream, of course (probably better to use diced fruits), but one can make an interesting Jell-O concoction by using champagne instead of the cold water for the basic Jell-O package recipe.

Plus you get to quaff the rest of the opened bottle.

Gravatar voxd | Homepage | 11.22.08 - 7:14 pm

I just looked at the link. Thank god Walmart has not made it into France yet. My nephew was a regional manager for them in southwest Iowa in the early eighties. They would go into the small towns and see what stores were there and then run specials on the products that the small stores were carrying in their stock. Walmart would take a loss in order to do away with the small business. After a town would die due to Walmart, they would close the Walmart store and combine it with a larger Walmart sometimes up to twenty miles away. What Walmart did not small businesses all over the US was criminal.

Gravatar Gotta get ready to shut down the ol' Windows machine and close up.

As a fellow insomniac, hope that you and Morpheus come an understanding, Keith.

Gravatar Also the Gap is owned by the Fisher family in San Francisco. They also have Old Navy, and Banana Republic. Big repigs...

Gravatar I might add about the Fisher, good friends with Senator Feinstein of California.

Gravatar voxd | Homepage | 11.22.08 - 10:00 pm

Have a good time at your get together...

Gravatar voxd | Homepage | 11.22.08 - 7:29 pm
This time last year, our vacation rental was full for July and August. This year nothing. Clark's social security kicks in next month, so will be OK. Also the dollar is now doing better against the euro. When we came here in 2002 the dollar was 20% higher than the euro.

Gravatar Capt. Bat Guano | 11.22.08 - 7:36 pm

Where do they find these creeps???

Gravatar Capt. Bat Guano | 11.22.08 - 8:40 pm

When I was having a lot of health problems because of AIDs, the cats were the main reason I did not turn out the big light. I had great support from Clark, but it was the cats that kept me going. Even now when I'm having a bad day, I will take a nap with Cali, and she will lay on top of me a purr. At night she sleeps in her own space, but during the day always on me.

Gravatar I just finished all the comments and links, will keep checking back to see if Guano checks back in...

Gravatar Keith in Southwest France | Homepage | 11.22.08 -

That's a very sweet sentiment Keith, I would have to wait until what ever pet I had at the time was gone, then maybe... It's just that every thing that brings me joy, drumming, hiking, motorcycling, woodworking and flying radio controlled gliders requires a complete body, I would just be bored to death if I got physically incapacitated.

Gravatar Keith in Southwest France | Homepage | 11.22.08 - 10:15 pm | #

They don't have to look very hard, unfortunately a large percentage of the American population finds these evil morons agreeable.

Gravatar Hi Capt.
It is almost 6:00 in the morning here and have been on the net for a couple of hours. Could not sleep. Looking for ways of making beeswax for waxing my old floor in the office.

Gravatar I'm just putting off going to bed, getting up early as usual to get stuff done need to go to the dump, my buddy who does excellent hardwood floors is coming over to help me lay that cherry flooring that I'm using for my kitchen counter top. We're going to do a log cabin weave on the 3 inside corners. It will be fun to learn a few new tricks Charlie is the best in the area and has taught me a lot about fine woodworking over the years.

Gravatar Keith, maybe these people have something that would work. Here's their wax type finishing products.

http://www.rockler.com/CategoryV....cfm? Cat_ID=102

Gravatar Capt. Bat Guano | 11.22.08 - 8:40 pm

Because there are so many beekeepers here I am going to mix the beeswax myself. As far as I can tell, you mix heated beeswax with turpentine and then apply that to the floor.

Gravatar Keith in Southwest France | Homepage | 11.22.08 - 11:16 pm | #

One of those products mentions using toluene as the solvent, says it works very well.

http://www.rockler.com/product.c....cfm? page=11468

One bad thing is that toluene is what I call brain rotter supreme so fumes would be a serious concern without adequate ventilation. Ant way....I'm gonna sign off and call it a night, I hope you can get some sleep and solve your beeswax issue. Talk to you next time. Good night.

Gravatar Have a good sleep.

Gravatar Keith in Southwest France | Homepage | 11.22.08 - 11:16 pm |

Here are some beeswax polish recipes:

http://tipnut.com/homemade-beesw...polish-recipes/

Turpentine can leave and retain a strong odor. You might investigate jojoba oil or tung oil in its place (tung oil is a dynamite penetrating treatment on most any wood).

Using a double boiler to melt the beeswax is de riguer.

Gravatar Good morning Hill and the gang. It's foggy out on the moors this morn.

Gravatar Hi Capt Bat....bright and sunny here just a couple hours south of you!...rained like a boogey for the last couple days though.

Got the housework thing goin'...daughter had a friend in from Alaska (via Virginia...living there for a year while his mom has a big-time temp job in DC...talk about culture shock for the poor kid..)

They had fun, ran around PDX, saw movies and such.

Gravatar Hypatia | Homepage | 11.23.08 - 12:44 pm | #

Hyp, same weather up here, me and my buddy are putting cherry on my counter top today, damn he's good at it.

Gravatar voxd | Homepage | 11.23.08 - 4:33 am

Thanks for the receipe for making the wax. We went to a market today and I was able to buy about a half pound of the pure beeswax. It's the same market that we go to every fall. Many of the hippies from the 68 Paris riots live there.

http://thumbsnap.com/v/cPayrKNb.jpg

This guy was one of the many performers at the market.

Gravatar Hola!

Just a quick drive-by this evening.

Hope every one of you guys had and are having a wonderful Sunday!

Got a new post scheduled to post at 6:05 a.m. tomorrow morning.

I've got things to do tomorrow, but I will definitely stop by in the evening to chat a bit.

See you there!

Gravatar See you there!

Hill | Homepage | 11.23.08 - 5:24 pm | #

Well, ain't that just damn skippy. See you then amigo.

Gravatar OMG!

I just watched "24: Redemption", the 2-hour movie "hook" for the January premiere of "24."

It was excellent!

I also decided to add my followers back.

Missed seeing you guys there on the page.

I would be honored if you chose to be a "follower" at the new place, too.

And I promise I won't delete the category, even if I don't reach 100. That's my goal. 100. Wouldn't that be cool?

And virtually impossible?

Gravatar OK, niters, everybody!

Have a great night with good sleep and even better dreams.

Manana!

Gravatar I've learned so much just reading one thread. From furniture polish to prince pecker and crushed pineapple gel.
