Holy Crap, breaking News! Bush just became an America Hating Socialist!
WASHINGTON –President Bush said Tuesday that “I take responsibility” for failures in dealing with Hurricane Katrina and said the disaster raised broader questions about the government’s ability to respond to natural disasters as well as terror attacks.
President George W. Bush: “Katrina exposed serious problems in our response capability at all levels of government,” Bush said at joint White House news conference with the president of Iraq.
“To the extent the federal government didn’t fully do its job right, I take responsibility,” Bush said.

Mike, when are you going to stop pointing fingers. It is terrible to play politics with a Disaster of this scale. Unless of course you are the President in which case I'm sure you will defend him. Now guess which one of these governors is a Democrat and which is the Republican:
[Blanco] says that two days after Katrina, desperate for help, she couldn't get through to Bush and didn't get a callback; hours later, she tried again, and they talked....
Barbour hasn't had to wait hours to talk to Bush. In fact, Barbour said in an interview with USA TODAY, the president called him three to four times in the wake of Katrina. "I never called him. He always called me," he said.

Mike, I'm no fan of the way Mayor Nagin or Gov. Blanco handled the situation. There were certainly things they could have done to improve the situation but didn't. However it's also important to realize that once the levee's broke most of their resources were under water. Their mistakes do not clear Bush for his inaction.
OH REALLY? HOW NICE OF YOU TO PROVIDE THAT SPLINTER OF BALANCE TO YOUR BUSH HATING REMARKS!

By the way, here is the actual quote from Tim Russert and Mayor Nagin since Mike decided to paraphrase (ie. mislead):
NO MISLEADING HERE BUDDY BOY. PRETTY CLEAR IN THE POST THAT NAGIN DIDN"T WANT TO ANSWER THAT ONE... NOR DID LANDRIEU....
TRY AGAIN PAL. PLAYTIME IS OVER!

Mike
I was starting to think that you were over-using that picture of the submerged busses to much, but the point is now driven home.
Something like: THERE'S YOUR FUCKING RELIEF EFFORT, UNUSED AND SWAMPED DUE TO THE INCOMPETENCE AND DITHERING OF THE MAYOR.
As for Brandon, this is after all "MIKE'S AMERICA" and he doesn't have to tolerate all the Bush hatered.

"To the extent the federal government didn't fully do its job right, I take responsibility, Bush said."
Reading comprehension is your friend. What he is saying here is any part where the federal government had responsibility, he took the blame. This does not in any way excuse the collossal screwups by Blanco and Nagin. And Blanco did indeed talk to Bush, he called her immediately and pleaded with her before the hurricane hit to force mandatory evacuation and she didn't do it. He has called her several times to ask her to authorize federal control of the LA NG and to turn over the running of the disaster effirts to federal control. All refused.

Gee, why would we use the public and school transportation systems to evacuate residents who don't own cars and can't get out on their own? That doesn't make any lick of sense at all! I mean, the busses are dirty from carting all those kids to school, right? Let's leave em and let Katrina wash them up....
sheesh. Incompetence, thy name is Nagin. At least from where I stand.

W.F., I have no problem with reading comprehension and I agree that that statement does not excuse the mayor or governor. In fact I would be upset if it did because they take a good chunk of the Blame. I was just pointing that statement out because Mike still seems to maintain that they are TOTALLY responsible and that Bush has done NOTHING wrong.

JC I think what we have here is that Mike is just a little ticked off that the Democrats came out full bore and pointed the finger at Bush and never once tried to say, well the local officials had a huge part of the blame. In my opinion most of the blame. Some of their comments explaining some of the things they did are just inexplicable.
I rememeber before the water was rising at the Superdome and people in my office were all looking at each other and asking, "Why in hell did he tell them to go there??" And then the water started rising and we were really freaking out.
I truly thought they would all drown in there like rats.
Telling them to go to the Superdome should have NEVER happened. And there was absolutely no food or water there and the Mayor had said, "the policy was you need to bring your own food and water because it would not be supplied".
That is very, very, very, very, very poor leadership there. That is almost criminal. I would have had mountains of water and food there. He even said they would not allow RC food and water in there because they did not want more people going there. This is a silly sad statement.
