There was no medecine in Irak as USA set an embargo against it.

Does the price you pay for the gallon has anything to do with the origin of the petrol? How much does some company like Esso or Shell earn from the iraki's petrol?
Ask W why he wanted so much this war. There are proof that even before 9/11, even before his election, W and his counsellor had already planned the invasion of Irak. It has been proven that they were no WMD. It has been proven that the arguments brought by Donald Rumsfled and Colin Powel were falsified.

Mike's America: I don't understand your point of view.
French helped USA to get rid of UK by sending troops during the revolution.
USA helped french to get rid of Germans during WWII. Everybody acknowledge it in France, and in most homes, you can find pictures of happy french greating US soldiers.
IMHO the Irak issue can be discussed around 3 facts.
- Some French guys were making buisness with Saddam regime (as the US used to do as well, before GWI) and were reluctant to see that jackpot go away.
- Some US guys wanted to make more buisness in Irak (including halliburton) at the price of some soldiers killed.
- Those US guys convinced American people that Irak was a threat, and that bringing democracy was a wondefull idea - and by the way, an easy task.
What happened with the US/France point was that
some French guys - not necessarly the first ones, but not necessarly without keeping in mind the buisness issue - said: "look, if you go there, it will be soon an awfull mess, and - first you won't be able to get some oil to pay the price of war back - second it will become a heaven for terrorists".
The problem is : when you are trying to say: I am wrong and you are right or I am right and you are wrong, you are reducing a very complex issue into a very simple binary one. History tells us that such binary views are usually worse than anything else.
As a conclusion, there are some simple facts that we - american and french people - should recognize:
we have been both betrayed by our governments. Because French guys were making money with saddam, and because some american guys are making money with dead US soldiers.
Now, we both of us are paying by our taxmoney the cost of Irak war ($5 billions a month, I am workin in the US). For what kind of result ? Who is doing buisness over there ?
By the way, do you really think that our goverments are concerned by democracy ? Saddam used to be a good friend of ours... Like pinochet, Franco, the Saouds, Uribe, etc...
Whenever a government is speaking about human rights or democracy like Chirac and Bush were doing, all of us should be sceptical.. and ask: where is the buisness issue ? Money ruleZ,
not philosophy.
By the way, help me, mike's america: my english is too poor to understand the real meaning of this web site.

What is frighteningly missing from this whole discussion is the Iraqis themselves. It seems clear that they all wanted democracy, they seem more than happy to go out to vote. If we abandon them now we abandon them into chaos. That is immoral, why does no one seam concerned about that. I guess living in a wealthy industrialized country means that all that matters is your taxes and your soldiers. We in America have commitment to Iraq now (where or not is was wrong to go in the first place) I just hope that people in my country have the courage to stick this our and not abandon the Iraqis the way France abandoned Indochina.
