Parents need to just start pulling their kids out of public school. Plain and simple.

Monica: On the one hand I agree.
But I have the feeling that the school system would be only too happy to see that happen.
They still confiscate your tax dollars and they no longer have to provide space for your children OR answer to you.
I think the people who leave their kids in public schools need to organize and demand accountability. But you know that would mean work wouldn't it.
And most parents either do not care or just can't be bothered.
Meanwhile, the government will continue to confiscate our tax dollars to subsidize the kind of crap that is going on in classrooms like the one in Alabama, Colorado, Wisconsin (remember the 8 year olds told to write anti-war letters to elected leaders?)

Hey Mike. I'm just so disgusted with these rallies and protests and whatnot. I can barely take it anymore.
I did a post this morning about it and included some more photos from Michelle Malkin's site. Some of them were just unbelieveable. Including the flyer telling people to vote Democrat. Unfortunately, that one was indeed believeable.

Mo: You're right there in Dallas on the front lines.
Imagine what kind of mess Texas would become if the Azlan folks got their wish and turned it back over to Mexico.
In a generation it would go from being one of the most prosperous and free regions of North America to a corrupt socialist hellhole where Mexican racism would dictate the Anglos be deported.

I graduated from West Limestone just over 10 years ago and I'm surprised by the vulgarity of the video, but not the message. Limestone County is largely rural and not a very political place. I know so many people, including myself at one time, who believe themselves to be democrats but have the morals and values of republicans. It wasn't until I moved away and married a man from Montgomery (a very political city) that I really learned about politics.
What makes me really sad about this story is that my old school has obviously changed drastically. When I was there, quite a few of the teachers were also preachers in local churches. We always prayed at every school event and the rules were very strict about profanity and vulgarity on campus. Maybe the newer teachers coming into the classrooms don't have the same ideals as those who've retired and our children are having to pay for that.

Well I think NCLB was supposed to be about accountability. Wasn't it?
The school's federal tax dollars depends on how many seats are filled on a certain day of the year. If those butts aren't in those seats - no tax dollars for that kid. The local taxes they get - no matter what.
Abolish the Department of Education. Get it out of the feds. hands completely. Do we really think that's going to happen??

Sky (not to be confused with Skye from Philadelphia): I hope you express your concerns to local school officials using the email links provided in the post.
This episode casts a pall over every student and graduate of West Limestone.
A news follow-up yesterday reported that this "teacher" supposedly showed a similar video with Clinton as the subject. Doubtless, an attempt to show he is an equal opportunity offender.
Frankly, it doesn't matter. There is no way any video like the one in the post should be played to students in a school. And certainly not in a science class.
Monica: The No Child Left Behind program hasn't lived up to it's promises has it? The sad thing is that most people are too ignorant about what is going on, or not going on, with public education to demand real change. I could do an entire post on how Americans have just whistled past the graveyard on a whole host of issues like education or immigration and national security.
We never seem to pay attention to problems until they get so big, they cannot be avoided. Of course by then, the damage is so great the cost to repair is tragically high.

Here is the email I sent:
To whom it may concern:
What does bashing our President, using foul language and pushing a political agenda have to do with an 8th grade Science class? If this man is running for a political office maybe you should give him more time to work on his campaign.

I sent my kid to public school in Philadelphia, and it was horrifying. In kindergarten, the school was going to teach gay marriage equality propaganda. In First grade, she was censored for saying the complete Pledge of Allegiance (including the "under God" part) while the school had decided to delete that portion.
I DID do something, as mean, as much as I could do. I wrote an article in the Philly Daily News, went on talk shows, and met with the leaders of the school. At the end of the day, after my 6 year old was repeatedly mocked because she said the Pledge correctly and was not allowed to lead it over the intercom like everyone else... I decided to take her out.
This public school also had posters on the walls of the school during the election which said, "Americans Hate George Bush Because He Is A Liar" -- there were dozens of these posters. None supported Bush, of course. The teachers wore Kerry buttons... the choir was to sing at the United Nations' anniversary. I mean, at some point, you gotta take your child out of the cesspool.

Thanks Nancy French.
"Grizzly Mama"
http://grizzlymama.blogspot.com/ who comments here as Monica homeschools her Philly kids.
it's a shame so many parents are forced with the tough choices you describe. I hate to see the best and brightest students abandon the public schools to mediocrity, political correctness and left wing indoctrination.
But It's entirely understandable that you have to do what is in the best interest of your child.
Little Miss Chatterbox:
Glad you emailed. I imagine after your pal Sean Hannity got on the case by interviewing the mom yesterday, that this issue is going to heat up.
I hope more people will follow your example.

I've heard and seen some amazing stuff. What I DO NOT understand is parents getting their kids up every morning and sending them into that pit of vipers called public school. I've talked to many parents who hate it, know it's awful, would love an alternative, yet continue to send their kids there. (We live in a terrible school district)
I am glad that you took your daughter out Nancy. What a horrible thing for a little girl to go through. It is not easy for most of us before we finally get to the point where we say, 'Enough!' I had to overcome my own mental blocks about it, and one of those was believing that the so-called 'experts' know so much better than I. I also thought that I was not capable of teaching my kids AND I thought that homeschoolers were whacky-religious or something. Many parents choose homeschooling for religious reasons but more and more are making that choice for many, many different reasons.
The more parents abandon the public schools the more the issue will be addressed one way or another, Mike. Already options are appearing - Charter Schools, Cyber Charter Schools, Blended Schools and of course it is legal to homeschool your children in all 50 states.

Monica: Don't get me wrong. I think that you have to do what is best for your children and homeschooling and the other alternatives you list are fine.
It's just a shame that we can't do something about the problem with public schools. So many of those kids, whose parents either don't care or are not aware of the problem, will come out of the public education system with such seriously flawed reasoning skills that they will be a burden to society.
