-15, Lows Keep Getting LOWER!

Since a vote for Rudy wouldn't make a rat's ass
bit of difference in the South Carolina primary
I decided to vote for Thompson because of his
stellar performance the other night.

Yeah, baby! That's the Mike I know and love!

Gravatar Now Monica.... I also make it clear that Rudy voters in later states should stay the course.

Unless of course Rudy bails on them too!

Gravatar About time folks came to their senses. Thompson is picking up a full head of steam and will do well in SC and later States.

Gravatar Wow. Good for you Mike, in being fluid and adaptable to changes in circumstance.

Gravatar Go Fred and bring Duncan with you. What an unbeatable ticket, Thompson/Hunter.

Gravatar Mike, I am not convinced that Rudy will be sticking around very much longer. He is certainly trying a novel, albeit risky strategy.

I am also not sure Fred continues much longer, especially if he loses SC.

If that happens, and Mitt fizzles, you'll be left with either Huck or McCain. While I see either of these candidates as more acceptable to the middle of the road GOP'er, it is hard to see the hard core folks being motivated. Any thoughts if this happens?

Gravatar Excellent choice Mike. Of course you knew I would think so!!

Looking at some of the internals in SC polling Fred is making a move. Illegal immigrations is the #1 issue in SC and Fred leads the field on that issue.

The economy is secomd a23% and he is in a statistical tie with McCain and Huckabee.

I think we will see Fred at the top or a strong second next Saturday.

Gravatar I have been a Fredhead since before he announced and I felt like I was backing an invisible man. I hope that his slow start building to a victorious climax strategy was the right one. It is amazing how that one debate appearance has energized true conservatives.

Gravatar Mike,
This is a very thoughtful post.
As you know, I am a FRED HEAD ALL THE WAY and he is who I am going to vote for in our Kansas Caucus coming up.

However, I wouldn't be dissapointed with a Romney or a Rudy as our nominee either.

JAINPHX: My dream team would also be: Thompson/Hunter. I think I might be too far right sometimes for my own good. I voted for Alan Keyes in the 2000 primary, but then backed Bush when he was our nominee. I liked Bush, but I thought Alan was the more conservative of the two.

Gravatar Good call Mike. Are you seeing Fred in the media around SC now? Signs? That sort of stuff....

Gravatar No Curt! And I was disappointed that the latest announcement for events included only two stops for his bus.

Gravatar I don't know what lit a fire under Fred's butt in the SC debate, Mike, but it seems as though somone or something needs to put more kindling on the fire!

Gravatar I'm disappointed Thompson made only two
quick stops in the low country yesterday. Hopefully
he did some politicking upstate. Haven't seen
anything about that. Yesterday Edwards was on
the island. Was wondering why all the fumigating
trucks were out today.

Gravatar Rivka- we must be related, I did the exact same thing. Keys primary, then Bush. Can't say I'd ever vote for Keys again though.

Gravatar Mike, I think this is wise. I think Fred has a real shot at SC so its good to have him try and stop McCain/Huckabee.

Gravatar I can't remember the last time that the GOP winner of SC did not win the nomination, has it ever happened?

Currently it looks like this will be either Huckabee or McCain with Romney a close third:

Mike are you sure Fred is doing better than Romney? Huckabee or McCain winning SC would be a disaster.

haven't been on your site for a while, I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised to see that your final endorsement was for Rudy Giuliani.

Quite frankly I intensely dislike Mr.Giuliani. I dislike a good number of his political positions, his lifestile and wife swapping tendencies, his Mafia style loyalty notions and his addiction to getting media attention.

That said this man took on the toughest country in the US (the world?) and turned it into one of the best places to live. As somebody who was there before (I went to college in upstate New York) and after (I have family there now) I am extremely impressed. I believe that Mr.Giuliani is a man of action and I would very much like to see what he can accomplish in the White House.

I am thoroughly enjoying the primaries so far! Can't wait to see what happens in SC.

Gravatar Good point Kevin:

1980: Ronald Reagan won with 55%, defeating runner-up John Connally.
1984: Uncontested (Reagan was the incumbent president and was re-nominated).
1988: George H. W. Bush won with 49%, defeating runner-up Bob Dole.
1992: George H. W. Bush won with 67%, defeating runner-up Pat Buchanan.
1996: Bob Dole won with 45%, defeating runner-up Pat Buchanan.
2000: George W. Bush won with 53%, defeating runner-up John McCain.
2004: Uncontested (Bush was the incumbent president and was re-nominated).

And, I really would have liked to have seen Rudy put on a stronger campaign here. But I heard today that he spent $3 milliion in New Hampshire trying to stake out a position and he got: 4th place 20,395 votes or 9% and no delegates.

According to CNN he does have ONE delegate, from Maine.

If he turns things around in Florida it will be a miracle. If he doesn't, it will prove that you must compete and at least place in the top three in Iowa and New Hampshire.

He'd actually be doing us all a favor by removing some of the mystique from those two states.

Time will tell if he is right.

Gravatar A Fred win would help Rudy's FL/Super Tuesday plan as it would create even more choas in the nomination with three different upset wins in the first three states, so I definitely support an all out push for Fred in SC now that Rudy is out of that race.

I also agree with your last comment that I really do hope Rudy's strategy works if for nothing else to stop this stupidity of 2 of the smallest states, IA and NH, having so much influence over who becomes President.

Gravatar Mike, your switch to Fred Thompson for the South Carolina primary was a pleasant surprise. I hope others follow your lead and put Fred over the top.

Gravatar Cajun: I can see the point of having small states play an important role in the selection process. I'd hate to think we just vote in New York and California to select a nominee.

But why Iowa and New Hampshire all the time? Couldn't other small states rotate as the first?

There has been talk for decades about changing this process and making it more fair to other states. But nothing ever happens.

Gravatar Totally agree...wasn't bashing the small state status...it was that these two particular states hold so much sway and they are no where near...imho...representative of the nation at large.

Gravatar Thompson..."steam?" The big boys wouldn't let him get in no matter what. He's so soporific they'd be afraid his most strident calls-to-war
for Israel's defense would fall flatter than a Kansas plain.

Gravatar Hoop is definitely off his meds again b/c that made absolutely no sense.

Gravatar Hoop rarely makes sense. We all know he hates America and parrots the defeatist line. After that, who cares?

Gravatar I rarely do this. But I feel in this case it is warranted. On CIR Radio I made my case why I believe Senator Fred Thompson should be our next President. Pardon the first 7.5mins of banter. But at 7:30minutes into show ten I go through my reasons. Sorry to promote myself Mike.

After I got past the garden report I was SHOCKED to hear you are a Republican!

Your primary in Maryland is Feb. 12. I hope Fred is still around in another month. We'll find out in about 4 days.

Gravatar jainphx, your suggestion sounds like my fantasy ticket...I've liked Fred (and Duncan) for a long time and think Fred is actually the most solidly conservative of the lot...do we have recent national stats on our guys vs the Dems? I still am feeling a tug to go for whoever I think can beat them.
