Mike typed:
It used to be that we lived by the late Senator Vandenberg's rule that "politics stops at the water's edge." But like with so much else, not least of which is the U.S. Constitution which grants the President sole control over foreign policy, standards of conduct, like rules and law are actively redefined to suit Democrats whose confusion over the meaning of the word "is" is legendary.
Funny you should, in your snide way, reference the former Democratic President.
Speaking of which:
Then-GOP Presidential candidate Pat Buchanan: “And what are we doing bombing and attacking this
tiny country that has never attacked the United States to rip away from them a province that does not
belong to us? I believe it is an unjust war. I think we have failed in our strategic objectives, and it is now
becoming basically no longer a war for Kosovo but a war to save NATO’s credibility and NATO’s face.
And that does not justify sending in an army of 100,000 American ground troops into the Balkans.”
[NBC,
“Meet the Press,” 4/25/99]
There a lot more instances where politics didn't quite end at the water's edge Mike.

That's a pathetic comparison even for you.
President Carter would be insulted by the comparison.
And if you don't understand the difference between a conservative talk head and the Speaker of the House then you're an even bigger fool than I thought.

"the speaker was reluctant to weigh in on the incident without knowing that such a message would do more good than harm."
I guess if you're a milquetoast you might think that calling a spade a spade might do more harm than good. The libs hated Reagan when he called the USSR an "evil empire", they criticized Bush for his "axis of evil" speech, and now they can't even be brought to criticize Iran for an act of war.
Unreal.

It's odd that while we are being chastised for not acting in concert with any other nation we are also chastised for acting in tandem with Great Britain. I guess multilateralism only works if the other country is France - the same France that moves unilaterally against any former French colony in Africa. And moved unilaterally in Indo-China after WWII to recliam their old empire, thus sparking the VietNam War into which the French sucked the US to save their asses but France left anyway then chastised America for acting unilaterally.
One of things the liberals and much of the world does is to equate the US with the former British Empire. What the British did then is now for America to suffer the punishment. If it wasn't for the globalization of lunacy, I'd be pleased as punch just to repair to Fortress America and let everybody else shoot it out, but...

San Fran Nan's Democrats remind me of a line in an old song: "Everybody wants a ride up to Heaven, nobody wants to make the climb."
Seems they want peace but don't want to fight for it.

Ms Pissy hasn't the stomach for standing up to Iran. That wouldn't be San Fransisco chic. In the meantime 15 Royal Navy sailors and Marines are being manipulated by a guy should be held to account for his mistreatment of the 66 in 79 and now the 15 Brits. I think we need to start turning some screws at the Club Gitmo Resort. No more Harry Potter for terrorists.
I don't think Rep. Ellison was in Jerusalem on a tour I think he was on assignment from the redecorating committee. These people have no good intent in mind for their hosts, take that to the bank.

Mike,
Much of the thinking public was outraged when the US gave Khatami a visa. Many wanted the US to deny Dinny a visa. I wonder what the public reaction in the US would be if Israel denied Pelosi and Ellison visas due to their visit to Syria, a sworn enemy of both israel and the US?

Yet Speaker Pelosi is in the Middle East along with a delegation that includes Keith Ellison, the first Muslim member of Congress, and plans to visit Syria
Treason, IMO. Wrap it up in pretty paper, put a bow on it--it's still treason.

Tom: The "harm" wouldn't be to any strong international reaction isolating Iran. The harm would be to Nancy Pelosi's trip to Syria. She can't condemn terrorists and their state masters because that wouldn't be fair or constructive to her dialogue.
It's the twisted moral equivalence that says we're just as bad, even though we never do the same thing.

The protests at the British Embassy in Tehran, while only 200 people, were chanting 'death to America', and 'death to Britain' was just a second thought. It's really the US they want to strike at, and just could not do it. We would not sit by and WATCH while our guys were taken, we would have blasted them and saved our guys from this humiliation which may lead to who knows what? A trial? Death?

Debbie: There was another news story that got little play about a confrontation US troops had with Iranians who crossed the Iraqi border and tried to take them hostages.
The US troops blasted their way outta there or we might be having a very different news story now.
Of course it's all aimed at the U.S. That stupid letter they forced the British hostage to write was pretty clear on that point.

"while Iran's arresting british soldier's in its territory is heralded as "illegal kidnapping"; America's kidnapping Iranian officials in Iraq is justified; and CIA's kidnapping of the Iranian official in Turkey is not even mentioned"

Need a dictionary on the definition of "kidnapping" uff?
Perhaps then you'll understand the difference between sailors who were snatched at gunpoint and Iranian agents arrested for killing Americans.
Or doesn't that matter?
And as for the CIA kidnapping the Iranian in Turkey? Don't know where you get your facts, but I haven't seen that. We don't know who has the guy or whether he defected.
Or is the new definition of "kidnapped" anyone arrested by the U.S. or defecting?
Ever since "depends on the meaning of the word 'is'" I can't keep up with the way you folks change words to suit a defeatist/appeasement agenda.

Mike-
I think there's been a slipup.
You seem to have deleted the post I made demonstrating where Tom Delay failed to 'stop at the water's edge' back in 1999.
I'm sure it's an oversight on your part.
So here it is again:
IN HIS OWN WORDS: WHAT TOM DELAY USED TO SAY…
• “This is [President Clinton’s] war.” Washington Post, 4/14/99
• “The Kosovo operation is different and oxymoronic. It is a ‘peace war’ waged by ‘peace hawks’ pursuing a dovish social agenda. Peace hawks are global idealists and former anti-war activists, including the youthful Bill Clinton.” Floor Statement, 4/15/99
• “Doing good on a worldwide scale appeals to peace hawks, who are motivated by altruism, not patriotism.” Floor Statement, 4/15/99
• “There's no national interest of the United States in Kosovo. It's flawed policy and it was flawed to go in. I think this president is one of the least effective presidents of my life time. He's hollowed out our forces while running round the world with these adventures.” The Guardian, 5/17/99
• “American foreign policy is now one huge big mystery. Simply put, the administration is trying to lead the world with a feel-good foreign policy.” Floor Statement on Resolution on Peacekeeping Operations in Kosovo, 3/11/99
• “Bombing a sovereign nation for ill-defined reasons with vague objectives undermines the American stature in the world. The international respect and trust for America has diminished every time we casually let the bombs fly. We must stop giving the appearance that our foreign policy is formulated by the Unabomber.” Floor Statement on Resolution on Peacekeeping Operations in Kosovo, 3/11/99
• “Mr. Chairman, I rise today to voice my complete opposition to sending American troops to Kosovo. There is simply no vision to this mission. There is a six-year trend to send American troops anywhere for any reason, but there are no consistent goals that tie all of these missions together.” Floor Statement on Resolution on Peacekeeping Operations in Kosovo, 3/11/99
• “I rise today to state that no defense funds should be used for ground forces in Kosovo unless authorized by Congress.” Floor Statement, 4/15/99
• “So what they are doing here is they are voting to continue an unplanned war by an administration that is incompetent of [sic] carrying it out. I hope my colleagues will vote against this resolution.” Floor Statement on S. Con. Res. 21, 4/15/99
• “It is clear that any deployment to Kosovo will similarly drag on and go enormously over budget.” Floor Statement, 4/28/99
• “When asked the question, ‘what if he does not come to the table,’ they said, ‘well, we will go to Phase 2, and Phase 2 is that we will bomb for a few more days. Then he will be going to the table, by crackie.’ And when we asked, ‘Then, what?’ then they said, ‘well, we will bomb for another week and that will force him to come to t
