I just knew that you would have a wonderful Memorial Day post up, Mike, with glorious pictures included! I didn't put one up (oversight... I've been truly swamped) but with a post like this, and many other wonderful Memorial Day Posts on the web, I don't need to. This one is awesome!
Here is wishing you and yours a great Memorial Day weekend.
Every year the thought occurs to me that there will be many taking the day off that don't deserve to because they don't honor or even respect our Military, but they certainly don't volunteer to stay at work, do they?

Skye: 35mm Nikon FE. But I get it all developed and digitized at the same time. No more boxes of prints to take up space.

Memorial Day Sonnet
If Liberty means anything to me,
I will remember what my freedom cost,
By those who gave their all to keep me free,
Whose lives were sacrificed, but never lost.
I will remind myself of what they did,
And keep them dearly cherished in my heart;
Their honor never from me shall be hid
And I will know they always did their part,
To save our nation and its people here,
To pledge their lives in defense of our ways,
To show that freedom always outlives fear,
And sacrifice is hallowed all our days.
If Liberty means anything to me,
I will remember those who kept me free.

Very nice post Mike. Thanks for reminding everyone what Memorial Day is all about. I won't be posting anything on my blog for right now but my spirit and prayers are with all of those that have paid the ultimate price to keep this nation free.
This country is far from perfect but many brave people have sacrificed their lives to keep what they believed to be the best place we have found on the planet yet.
Freedom is why this nation is so great. Freedom is something we must guard jealously everyday and it doesn't come cheap as we have seen in the past and present. There will always be those great ones that serve and lose their lives for the American ideal of freedom. In stark contrast though there will always be those that will do nothing but complain. I would gladly give my life for this country and our way of life if you all wouldn't have to bear listening to all the complainers any longer.

Thank you for this reminder to us all of not only the true meaning of Memorial Day, but of how it all cam to be. We need a daily reminder of the eternal debt we owe to the Fallen.
With your permission:
""These stories will teach his son and from this day until the end of the world, we shall be remembered.
We few...we happy few...we band of brothers...for whomever has shed his blood with me shall be my brother.
And those men afraid to go, will think themselves lesser men as they hear how we fought and died together.""

Gee, I wonder where Arthur, Toad###, KKKenHoopthedupe, and Shaw disappeared to?
Those keyboard warriors always seem to vanish when something about gratitude to those who sacrificed their lives for us is posted...

Atheling: Even our lefty moonbats take a holidy. But something tells me they are not observing it. I imagine they are just grateful for a day off.

Gee....you'd think, given how they "support the troops....bring them home" and all, if they have so much time commenting on your blog, they'd at least have time to say a word or two honoring those who have given their lives to keep us free.

Wordsmith: Not one of them has ever had one nice word to say about our troops. Lefties loathe the military as much as they loathe themselves.

Not everyone takes the occasion of Memorial Day to wallow in partisan hackery and endlessly congratulate themselves for being such 'good' Americans.

" Not one of them has ever had one nice word to say about our troops."
You don't say a nice word about our troops on ANY DAY "Arthur."
Talk about "partisan hackery" you could write the book.
