You should have brought up the point that under Clinton, when he put the Homeowners whatever act (can't remember the name right now) in 1998 on steriods, started this mess. Financial institutions where forces to provide loans to people who were risky, or face penalties.
Bush and the republicans should have put a stop to this, but they must have thought it made them look good too.
We are now reaping what our Congress sowed.
Fire them all.

It is intriguing how the press is ignoring the fact that 7 of the top 10 recipients were Democrats. It's like when the GOP took the heat for Abramoff when he had paid off about the same percentage of the Democrats. Corruption is only a problem when it's Republican corruption.

Second, isn't the reason banks were giving out subprime loans because of deregulation? They couldn't do that before. And who were the strongest proponents of deregulation?
That being said, I looked up all recipients of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac donations and saw about as many republicans on that list as democrats. These include: Sen. Robert Bennett(R-UT), Rep. Spencer Bachus (R-AL), Rep. Roy Blunt (R-MO), Sen. Christopher Bond (R-MO), Sen. Richard Shelby (R-AL), and many more.

Doug: If you have bothered to read the other posts on the subject of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac you would have noticed that I link to the entire list of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac payoffs.
Aside from the FACT that the vast majority of money went to Democrats and that Barack Obama was the world champ in payoffs from Freddie and Fannie in his short years in office is that all during this time the GOP was offering one bill after another designed to reform Fannie and Freddie.
Democrats blocked them all.

And the Executives that ran Fannie Mae and Freddie Mack into the ground walked away with multi-million dollar bonuses and left the taxpayer with the bag of s**t.
