DING DING DING DING DING!!!!! -13.... How High can this go???

Out of curiosity, why do we believe that the oil companies would charge less for this oil when the market has shown it will support a $4.50 price point for a gallon of gas.

As the demand will only continue to rise on a worldwide basis, wouldn't we at best be insuring against future price increases?

The current crisis will only be solved by both parties standing together for the American people on a two pronged approach.

Something I wrote on earlier today.

Gravatar The market isn't going to support $4 a gallon for gas much longer. Most people are ready to string congress up by the nuts. Usually people blame the prez for such things but the American people are seeing through that fallacy now and understand congress is mostly to blame. Oil companies can't last much longer at this rate and they will have to start producing more gasoline from more refineries. All these other sources for power like natural gas, coal and shale oil have to be increased. Wind and solar power is light years away from being useful. Automobiles need gasoline and damn more of it.

Gravatar The libs have dusted off that old excuse that any oil drilling begun today will not go to market for seven to ten years. That's what they've said for thirty years. If we had drilled back then, the oil we want to drill today would have been in my tank by now.

In the meantime, Exxon Mobil, Shell, Total and BP are finalizing contracts to return to Iraq.

Gravatar Here's some things we should all be able to agree on. And any politician who doesn't should be voted out of office; even better, they should be tarred, feathered, and ridden out of DC on a rail:

Anything that will reduce the price of gas is good.

Anything that reduces our dependence on oil, especially foreign oil, is good.

Anything that will give us more, and therefore cheaper, energy is good.

Any idea that furthers the prior ideas needs to be put on the table. Now.

Gravatar Hi Mike,
Another great post. I love the way the President is sticking the high gas prices completely in the laps of the Democrats. I hope he keeps this up. The call of the Republicans ought to be something along this line. Keep reminding the people that high gas prices is the result of Democrats, and Democrats alone.

Gravatar The excuse that drilling now won't reduce the cost of oil is so ludicrous that anyone that repeats it is suspect. I was here 10 years ago when they said it I was here 20 years ago when they same BS it's time for the whiners and greeners to sit down STF up and suck it up because this country is tired of a small group of enviromental extremists dictating to us what to do with our financial and military security. Tell me now how that democrats are for the working class and I'll laugh right in your face.

Gravatar If we don't drill now we'll be even worse off ten years from now. Enough talk. Let's do it.

Gravatar I love Newts Campaign. It's simple law of supply and demand. India's Tata just basicly introduced his version of the Model T into the Indian economy. Even if it's powered by a lawn mower engine that's a quarter of a billion lawn mowers burning gas within 10years...

here is my perspective on a camparison between the two non-choices.

Gravatar Drill, refine, sell. Lets see tell me again how this can HURT our economy? Drilling makes for high paying jobs. Refining makes for high paying jobs. End product trickles down causing high paying jobs. Lower gas prices removes cost to trucking industry making for lower food prices. Tell me again the down side? The inviro weenies are all about power not keeping the U.S. prestine. they can't wait to bring this country to it's knees

Gravatar There is no down side jainphx.

But to Democrats, that's not important.

They have successfully been able to control this huge chunk of America's energy supply and they won't let go of it without a fight.

Gravatar This is great Mike!

The only ones holding up us drilling for our own resourses besides the environmental whackos is THE DEMOCRAT RUN CONGRESS!!

Love the Bumper Sticker

Gravatar I'm typing so fast today I cant remember what I want to say before I hit publish lol.

What I wanted to say is, Can you imagine when we do start drilling how many jobs this will create also?

This prospect is just the best idea I have heard in 13 years!

Gravatar Excellent post!! I used this for the radio show yesterday and linked to it for today's post!!

Gravatar I also snagged the Pelosi Premium !

Gravatar you know, I generally don't rehash post but I'll just copy and paste what I wrote on Dee's blog and we can debate from there:

1) It will take a minimum of 5 years to get to that oil at a higher infrastructure cost. Oil goes on the world market and at the rate of China and India consumes oil they will match that of the US in the next 10 to 15 years. Even conservative economists don’t see drilling in the OCS as a path to lower gas prices. Currently, companies that build oil rigs are having a hard time keeping pace with orders and the credit crisis is making it hard for companies to green-light projects. And even in the article where this is discussed, the rig-building business is predicated on continued high demand from China and India – not US offshore drilling.
2) All studies have shown that there is no way YET to extract shale oil without causing significant environmental damage and with today’s technology oil would have to be around $90 a barrel for companies to make a profit. You add the changes in the refinery process and we are still looking at $100 a barrel for any company to even think about drilling for shale oil. The western states have been dealing with drought conditions for over a decade now and shale oil extractions requires a lot of water. That and the carbon gasses emitted from the process make it a hard sale. Shale oil will not be a viable option until additional advancements are made.
3) Refinery capacity is an issue already and that is one place where there is plenty of room to compromise but along with environmental concerns that hinder refineries, the low margins are another reason why there are no new refineries. Why build a refinery in Nevada when it is cheaper to build them in the ME where the oil is extracted? It cost $2.5 billion to build a refinery in addition to the environmental studies and community impact studies that have to take place.
4) ANWR is a red herring in that the oil would go on the world market and like I mentioned earlier, China’s growth would outpace the oil so it would have no impact on gas prices. I do believe that an oil company could drill there with minimal impact on the environment as is the case with offshore drilling. It would still be a risk and if those states were willing to take it, then I see no reason to oppose it.

Gravatar The Pelosi Premium is a farce. Let's look at the global oil industry:

On the demand side, a weak dollar makes oil less expensive because it is increasing the purchasing power of currencies that have been gaining in value against the dollar, offsetting some of the rise in prices and boosting consumption.

The result is a Catch-22 dynamic. “The lower dollar reduces supply and increases demand, thus raising oil prices,” explains Alhaji, who is an Associate Professor of Economics at the College of Business Administration, Ohio Northern University. “As a result, the value of US oil imports increases, which in turn widens the trade deficit, which weakens the dollar further.”

So, besides China's robust economy, which is being supported by our trade policies, Bush's economic policies that support a weak dollar (borrowing from China to pay for the war being one), there is very little the Congress can do to impact oil prices.

Gravatar Thanks James for confirming that Democrats want to follow a conservation only policy. All the rest of Dem rhetoric is just pie in the sky with a delivery date an order of magnitude greater than that of readily available oil supplies.

And of course the worst part about your policy, or lack thereof, is that lower income workers and families will be hardest hit.

So much for liberal compassion.

Gravatar Yes, we will need that oil 14 years from now when it comes on line and all our cars are running on hydrogen. Good plan!

Gravatar "14 years"???

Stretching the truth again to fit your prejudices Toadbat?

Your Hydrogen car MAY be available in 14 years. All the more reason to drill and use American oil NOW. And it won't take us 14 years to get it.

Gravatar Toad: If they do get the hydrogen cars online in 14 years, then we can sell our oil to China.

But the longer we wait, the more dependent on people that want to rule us we'll become.

Gravatar Patrick: All this smoke and mirrors is just an excuse to cover up the failure of their real policy which is conservation only.

They don't want to be blamed for the recession which their policy will cause by constricting the growth of the U.S. economy. We're already seeing the inflation part of this equation.

They never take responsibility or accept accountability for their actions.

Gravatar Mike typed:

We're already seeing the inflation part of this equation.

Oh we're seeing the recession part of this equation as well.

About what one would expect from 7-1/2 years of Bush economics.

Mission Accomplished!

Gravatar "Arthur:" Pffftt...

And if you expect a more intelligent response... try writing a more intelligent comment.
