Obama certainly is full of himself if he thinks he had anything to do with this. He's a cream puff and the world leaders are looking forward to walking all over him.

In fact, he probably thought the fighting was going on outside of Atlanta...

"the fighting was going on outside of Atlanta"
Good one Timothy. And I should point out again that McCain has actually visited Georgia (not the one with Atlanta) including a stop in the breakaway province of Ossetia. He's also known the current Georgian President since 1997.
That's what experience gets you.

I heard some pseudo intellectuals today blaming the Bush admin. I had to laugh at their utter stupidity. Vladimir Putin had it in his mind to attack Georgia no matter what anyone said about it. It's like blaming the cop for not being there when the crime was committed.
This is the first military offensive mounted by the former Soviet forces. It was fast, decisive with clear objectives. The use of armor at the spear point along with air cover following up with infantry and heavy mobile artillery. This was a carefully planned event and most military will agree it was not staged to just punish Georgia. The other objectives included were to show world military leaders including the US that the former Soviet forces were not completely emasculated by the fall of the Soviet Union and Russia is still a capable military force to deal with.
Whether or not Putin decides to occupy Georgia for any amount of time, it is his call. I believe he will try and extort as much as he can from the Georgian leadership on the pipeline and joining NATO and when he gets what he came for he will return to the traditional border facing the enemy with his guns still pointed toward Georgian forces. Putin will leave a formidable strike force on that border when he gets there.

If Putin wanted to attack Georgia, Cheney and Rice sure walked into his trap. Just like they walked into Iran's trap vis the Iraq War. As Pat Buchanan outlines in many columns, the US has been unnecessarily baiting
Russia for years--now don't expect co-operation on Iran, sweetie.
