Gravatar Christmas is a time when we give to those that we love, and are keenly reminded of those that do not have the ability to give to those that they love, or even care for themselves. Thus it's a natural time to think and to desire to help.

Anyone know of a charity that provides health insurance to the poor? Because that's a charity I'd contribute to much quicker than any other. And I'd do it year-round.

Gravatar Uhmmm Sara-(tongue partially in cheek)
Here in Mexifornia I believe that is called Medi-cal only it isn't supposed to be a charity...Please feel free though to send your generous charitable donations to Mexifornia where ERs and hospitals are closing far too often because the Feds indeed are not reimbursing as they promise...or to myself who has to charge her always increasing insurance premiums yet ever declining benefits for her two sons...BTW I believe wholeheartedly in some sort of socialized medicine for all....Something I bet Howard also has something to say about!!

Gravatar Crystal-

I definitely think that the government should take care of health care. People are assets, it's in America's best business to keep its assets healthy. Treating a large percentage of assets as disposable seems to me like a crappy way to run a business. In addition to which, forcing businesses and individuals to pay prohibitively high costs for health care is anti-business. I'm sure Mr.. I mean Howard would argue with me.

Seriously, though. On the topic of charities and giving on the holidays, one of the big things that conservatives have always told me is that charity would be more efficient at providing services. So I was hoping that maybe someone would know of a charity where I could donate, and perhaps recieve some of the benefits from- since health insurance is sort of prohibitively expensive for me at the moment. :p I could afford a $150 buck donation, but not a $300/month premium.

Cheers-

Gravatar btw- good article. Not the type of subject matter I can really comment on, but well written nonetheless.

Gravatar A Christmas Carol is the only Dickens book I actually read (though I managed to write a few papers by perusing A Tale of Two Cities and Great Expectations). Oliver Twist made a good musical. If you really want to put your daughters to sleep, pull out one of those...well at least A Tale of Two Cities has Madame Guillotine (on second thought, don't pull that one out).

Your article explains the concept of ecumenism quite well. Nice job, Howard!

Gravatar Great book-- amazing how much of the dialogue in the numerous remakes comes directly from the page, huh?
