HNAV - Are you sure about this bill? There was a second one as well, with money allocated - and this one - without money allocated. I'm watching Fox News, as I type, and it was just an hour or so ago that I heard that there were the two bills... One, as you detailed; and a second that piggy-backed on a Homeland Security Defense Spending bill [what HASN'T been attached to this bill?!?] that called for only 300 miles of fence and some money... It will be interesting to see where this goes - either way. They wait until the Nth hour to even find something to pass and then do it so ship-shod half-ass that we are all so fed up we nod our heads, shrug our shoulders and mutter to ourselves, "Well something is better than nothing."
We need a complete overhaul of our administration. Need to get crews in there that will actually pay attention to the money that is being spent on our behalf - I know - there is the new transparency bill [did that actually pass after our Republican Senator put that "quiet" hold on it, along with who, Senator Byrd?]?
It's just so damn frustrating...
Oh well.

Update - The bill is the 700 mile one. My mistake.
The bill is still lame. A fence is NOT going to solve the problem. Fences were made to be climbed / cut / tunneled under... So, now, WE are going to pay for a fence. We are also going to pay for additional border security personnel to man the fence. We are going to finance all of this at the cost of several-gazillion dollars, no doubt, and the fence is just going to prove to be totally useless. Mark my words.
There really needs to be more control, here, after the Illegal’s have gotten past the fence. Fines / debtor’s prison [?] – Illegal’s could pay off their fines by building the fence! Fine the employer’s, the landlord’s, DMV personnel, school administrator’s, whoever it is that is providing services to someone NOT in THIS country LEGALLY.
Okay. I've rambled on enough.
It's all just so exasperating that it is truly exhausting!!!

BT !!!
you rock...
well said again.
thank you for the thoughtful insight, I enjoyed it...
I tend to agree with your savvy position, and curious questioning.
It is frustrating, but in my humble opinion, I am going to encourage and celebrate every step forward. Any improvement is welcome in my book, especially in comparison of the contrary agenda of the Democrats, who wish to further open the door.
(Not enough of course, at least not yet...)
The overwhelming votes in favor, coming from the weak Senate, is a big sign in my view. Meaning, the political winds must be sending a strong message to provide serious border control, and address illegal immigration.
From my understanding, a major problem remains, (besides a lack of political will), in the 'COURTS', especially regarding to deportation of illegal immigrants already here.
More Conservative Judicial appointments can help with the inevitable ACLU lawsuits. But better immigration reforms through legislation would be welcome.
There are some aspects I find interesting in the 'comprehensive' plans, and some sincerely unattractive.
But, as I would agree with all you have stated, I must recognize progress. Especially, knowing the difficulty of dealing with such a massive bureaucracy.
For one thing, Republicans in Congress have shown some unity on an issue previously dividing the Party. They have a long way to go, but I strongly feel, this passage is a beginning, when many suggested nothing would be accomplished before November.

It's a START!!!
Look how long it took these idiots in Congress to realize that a blindly open border was a bad idea. Build the fence first, then add to it.

Language mandating deportation of illegal invaders of this country must be worded so strongly and framed so carefully that NOBODY is able to sidestep the clear meaning of the law. Deportation must always be framed as a "mandatory" matter for anyone who has entered our country illegally.
