Gravatar Trade secret

Gravatar She sure does. Doesn't she know Kol Isha is a nono?

She says that she is keeping samartians alive with her music... What about that says she didn't convert to Judaism???

Gravatar Daganev

Actually, she said, from what I hear, the F word a few seconds after 5:40

Gravatar Now I have to listen to it again.... I didn't hear that at all.

Gravatar yeah.. I guess you can hear the F word... The first time I heard 'forget', the second time I heard the F word, the third time I heard 'Forget'

My wife says she heard the word "thought"

Gravatar Listening to it again, your wife might be right.

Gravatar Since we're talking about Samaritans I have to ask - do they think that they were at Mattan Torah and that the Samaritan Chumash is the text given then (and over the next 40 years)?

Wikipedia (a source I do not trust at all) says so. If so, aren't they a comprehensive disproof of the Kuzari principle?

Gravatar >Wikipedia (a source I do not trust at all) says so. If so, aren't they a comprehensive disproof of the Kuzari principle?

Yes, I have heard this before.

I think it is only a disproof of that principle if you believe in the Talmud's account (IIRC) that they were NOT originally Israelites. I believe THEY believe themselves to be descendants of the northern kingdom.

Larry Lennhoff "

Wikipedia at it's worst. Samaritans are descendents of Northern Israelites and foreign colonists.

Gravatar Pretty! Definitely Israelite :P
Many of their girls are, interestingly, red-headed.

Thanks.

My vague brain recolection about samaritans says 3 things.

Decedants of the northern Kingdom (from this vid)
People who trick Joshua into not killing them (vague feelings of the book of Joshua)
Non Jews who decided to try to be jewish while still maintaing thier own nationality (vague feelings from talking to christians)

I've never heard them described as saying that they have the "proper" five books of moses, I've always heard them as being described as having the proper "holy mountain"

While I agree that is how the Samaritans are commonly described, I think that is the result of their continuing to practice animal sacrifice at the mountain. Having their own version of the Chumash (which they do) is just much less interesting to the average person.

Those were the Giv‘onim — i've never heard anyone claim that the Samaritans are descended from them.

Gravatar Funny that a Jew is a Goy to a Samaritan Girl. Perhaps we should tell Abandoning Eden, it would comfort her.

Gravatar >I've never heard them described as saying that they have the "proper" five books of moses, I've always heard them as being described as having the proper "holy mountain"

Well, with the belief in the proper mountain comes the belief they have the proper tradition, including the proper book of Moses.

I heard it on one of those sunday morning church shows.

Only if you don't believe that they're descendants of ancient Israelites, like Jews.
