Atheists like him crave the attention and affection his fellow atheist internet cheer-leaders grant him. Kinda like how Dawkins, Harris, Hitchens, and Dennett are always endorsing each other's books.

Like any religious fundamentalist, he believes he is on a holy crusade ton rid the world of an aweful evil (religion). Of course the Crusaders were also just as zealous and self righteous.
