Gravatar More guilty pleasures, mostly from '70s and '80s. The standard seems to be someone else asking "How can you like that?" So enjoy. Or not.
-- Just about anything by Bananarama, especially "Venus" and "Cruel Summer."
-- "Video Killed the Radio Star" by the Buggles.
-- Just about anything by Commander Cody.
-- "Rockaria" or "Ma Ma Ma Belle" or "Calling America" by ELO.
-- "Hey St. Peter," "Media Man" or "Walkin' in the Rain" by Flash and the Pan (featuring George Young, older brother of AC/DC's Angus and Malcolm Young and their occasional producer!)
-- Anything off "The Mothers of Invention, Live at the Fillmore East, June 1971."
-- "The Lumberjack" by Jackyl.
-- "Lick It Up" or "Let's Put the X in Sex" by KISS.
-- Just about anything by Tom Jones, whom we have established as The Man.
-- "Praying to a New God" by Wang Chung.
-- "Keep Your Hands to Yourself" by the Georgia Satellites.

Gravatar Whip It-Devo, Stroke-Billy Squire, The Kid Is Hot Tonight-Loverboy, Eye In The Sky-Alan Parsons Project, Don't You Want Me-Human League, Suddnely Last Summer-The Motels, Voices Carry-Til Tuesday. But I'd never admit to liking any of those unless, of course, it paid cash...

Gravatar I forgot one other guilty pleasure:

"Lifeboat Party" by Kid Creole and the Coconuts.

Again, enjoy. Or not.

Gravatar Jake: Capatain and Tennille, nice, I forgot that one.
Jeff: I have a soft spot for Bananarama and that Buggles tune still is a fave of mine. The Lumberjack , that song is just plain classic.
Chris:The Motels, right on. Her voice melts me. Actually all of your picks are great. I'm a closet Loverboy fan myself. Voices Carry is an awesome song.

Gravatar Several years ago, a friend of mine told me of his experience meeting Marie Osmond. He was the sound and lighting guy for the Osmond tour at that time, and quite by accident happened to walk in to Marie's dressing room prior to one the the Osmonds shows. She was wearing only panties. He was fired the next day and never saw them again.

Gravatar WHEN ARE WE GONNA QUIT BASING OUR PATHETIC LIVES ON WHAT OTHER PEOPLE THINK IS "COOL", for cryin' out loud??!?!
(Obviously, never...)[grin]

Anyway, "Down By The Lazy River" was such a crass, obvious attempt to put a little more ROCK in the Osmonds' goody-goody image...SO WHY DOES IT SOUND SO GOOD? Hellifino...but at this point in life, I couldn't IMAGINE trying to deny that I LOVE IT! In fact, it's kinda funny to watch a "hipster"s head explode when you tell them you like stuff like this, innit?
("One Bad Apple"'s obvious J5 rips don't dimnish it's melodic, plastic funkiness one iota.....That's right, I said it. Now they'll never let me in the HIPSTER FRATERNITY...)

PS: Anything uptempo by ABBA! (Marshall Crenshaw's live version of "Knowing Me, Knowing You" is pure lollipop fun......)

Gravatar There's nothing in the world like an evening of 1910 Fruitgum Company. I like to set in on "repeat".

Gravatar Get on over to YouTube and check out the latest Osmond video of "Crazy Horses".

Gravatar Daveyboy's Marie Osmond story is a cool reminder of what all this blogging is good for. Where else would you hear a story about her in her panties?

Bad shit I like? Anything by Rush!

Gravatar hey, I like this blog and thanks for linking up to me. Consider yourself linked too!

Gravatar Y'all have beat me to the punch on The Carpenters, ABBA, and The Captain & Tenille, but why has nobody mentioned The Bee Gees?

The song "Night Fever" will be forever lodged in my psyche after learning how to do 'The Bus Stop' at Girl Guides (age 10).

(It beat the hell out of selling cookies. That sucked ass.)

Gravatar ok. here goes: "Bang-Shangalang" - The Archies / Dino, Desi & Billy first album / "Candy's Gone Bad" (especially the live version) - Golden Earring / anything by The Tubes / Easy Lover - Phillip Bailey & Phil Collins / and currently I'm absolutely NUTS about Unknown Hinson, The King Of Country-Western Troubadors. Visit his website at www.unknownhinson.com and you will see why this is a "guilty" pleasure. The King is currently out on tour here in the states. so if any of y'all get a chance, I strongly advise you go see him.
have i embarrassed myself enough?

Gravatar By the way, doesn't everybody go to Buffalo to get their ass bitten?

Gravatar I'm with you on the Rollers...loved them then...still love them. Someday some label in the USA will put out "Elevator" on CD and I will be a very happy dude....

Gravatar daveyboyomg panties only, that is one of the best stories I've ever heard.Would've given my left nut to see that. My right hand is busy now.
Edwood it sounds so damn good because it is, and one bad apple kills anything the Jackson 5 ever did.
Mr Beer puleeze, you and I both know that Rush is the shit.
merzWhat happened to your alien playing the guitar? You got a nice looking blog and your music choices have been wise so I linked ya, Thanks eh.
JenJen, Jen, Jen did you not read my post, number 7 was a Bee Gees song. The best ever.
Wick Glad to see an Archies entry here. Kept hoping someone would mentionthem, and u came through. I wasn't embarassed for you till you said y,all. I think you have to live in MS for at least 2 years before you can say y'all.
Side3 A (long)while back I had a contest to name that song and it was Elevator by the Rollers. Like you I say to the record company, I demand that Elevator be remasterd and rereleased on CD, it has chops. Waiting impatiently, until then we will trade copies of it and the record companies will make no money off it. Unfortunately neither will the Rollers, who I believe most are penniless due to the contract they signed with the unscrupulous record company.

Gravatar Filling out my disc, I'm leaning towards Captain and Tenille(you know which one),Voices Carry by Til Tuesday and the Archies followed by anything by Marie Osmond in her panties. Plus the Partridge Family is a lock.

Gravatar Well I really thought about the secret song question...and decided not to admit to anything which might still incriminate me, even after all these years.
Sorry.

Gravatar let's qualify my "hick-dom". i was born in lebanon, kentucky and lived the first 9 years of my life there. it took a good amount of time to shed the accent and become "generic". but occasionally i slip and say things like y'all!

shoot! i'm entitled ain't i?

Gravatar wow, what a goldmine!!!
I love your silly songs...

Gravatar What's more gay, liking Olivia or liking Bary?

I like both.

Gravatar _Generally I say that I like the 80s & wave sounds, but there's a whole mini-era of late 70s (not too heavy, not too lite) Rock. Included are bands like ELO, Heart, Toto...

Gravatar i loved down by the lazy river when i was a kid.glad to see that its not forgotten.donny osmond and his brothers were damn good.thanks for saving the music for all of us.
