I'm not a fan of the boss, but John Denver was introduced to the Brits in the 70's with his tv show.
I loved the music, especially 'Rocky Mountain High', but found the whole show very cheesy for my British tastes.
You are right on about an artist being given the time to grow. I cannot imagine that today any artist, who doesn't have 3'30 of hit material on their first outing, would be given anything more than bus fare back home. If that.
