I've had my two german shepherds for eleven years.

The first few years, my sensitivity to their approach to life--a certain zeitgeist--could generate some confusion of emotion; from embarassment to pride.

When I moved into my neighborhood, there was a group of young, unemployed men who preferred congregating on the corner, kitty-corner from my house.

They didn't intend it, but they successfully trained my dogs to bark at young, unemployed men. And, living in a neighborhood with several vacation rentals, my dogs have increased the degree of security we all share.
