The guts? I don’t know, but I do know I will do what is required to keep my family safe. Red Dawn or Islama-dawn, if they bring the fight here our “Redneck Militia” will fight. And I will be a member.

Yep. The bad guys don't have to win big battles. They only need to pick off a handful of Americans every week and let the American press take it from there.
Meanwhile, we are dicking around with a committee on how to fight the war, when the average soldier, sailor and airman knows damned well how to fight the war, if they would only be allowed to do so.

^5 to you HB. Let's bunker down, as I, and my boys, are ready if the need arises for a "Red Dawn". Meanwhile, we do what is needed, and obviously my voting didn't count for shit. If we need, we will. There's a way, we will.

The problem is they send our soldiers over there and expect them to act like cops. Soldiers kill people, plain and simple. Let them do their job and they will win. Instead we send them over there with a bunch of engagement rules. Blah, Blah, Blah. Give them the tools, materials and remove the leash and they will win.

I would only add that when the Iranian ragheads took over the embassy and Carter did nothing it started the mess with the Muslem terrorists. The hell of it is that we have done nothing to change their minds.

Guy -- you are absolutely right, I did not tell the whole story of why the Islamofascists think we are weak. Our failure to address the takeover and capture of our Embassy in Iran not only made the terorists believe we are weak, but gave credence to the Iranians, resulting in the position they now occupy as THE power in the Persian Gulf today. The blame can be placed squarely on Carter. Thanks.

The question to be asking is not whether we have the guts to win, but why are we fighting other people's battles for them?
I have no qualms about killing America's enemies. It's just becoming clearer we have way too many enemies at home to be effective against those abroad (especially if they are ones our government won't even properly identify, and quickly exterminate without trying to bribe them for life at the same time).
The Constitution speaks loudly against foreign entanglements and alliances in many places. We were once part of a nation so arrogant as to believe it could not only rule the earth, but do it from the grave. All hopes that the revolution of 1776 ended that appear to be baseless.

What fatwhiteman said!
The military is supposed to be the killing machine we turn on when an enemy comes around. When a threat arises, turn it on/loose. Once the threat is eliminated, turn it off.
What part of this underwhelmingly, near-fetched concept do the cocksuckers in Washington DC not get?

Galt. we agree on much, but not in this case. The idea of a completely "clean" war is not practical, given our enemy. Who are we fighting, it is not a nestablished army, but a collection of individuals. It is just not possible to blast away and leave, that very vacum will make our enemies stronger. I will agree our military is not used effectively, but your scenario is not feasable. America can not be an island. Isolationist policies will not work. Like it or not we are part of a global economy. The American people will NOT accept an economy that includes $30 T shirts or $5 gallon of gas. If we had to depend only on US made products, that is what we would face. We are one of the few nations that could be self-sufficient, but the cost to our economy would be too high.
