Maybe the faith-based wing of der Fatherland, I mean the Homeland Security Service will be used to prepare the country for faith-based emergencies - like when all the born again sky pilots, I mean jet pilots, dammit, jet pilots, bus drivers, air traffic controller etc, get taken up to heaven when the rapture hits or the next time God makes it rain frogs or something.
They're downloading those nasty social welfare programs, with their sucking drain on the monies intended for the war effort, to the hands of the 'faith based' groups who 'traditionally' take care of the needy of society.
Without oversight I'm sure. And no need to hire persons not meeting their 'faith based' standards of behaviour and likely not serving the needs of those not meeting those same 'faith based' standards of 'deserving'. Minimum wage for workers likely doesn't come into it either, since after all it's for 'charity'. Load the guilt factor a little deeper. With luck, they can get prisoners lent out for projects to slave away as their labour force. And never forget, the approved 'faith based' groups would all have professional lobbying groups in the Capitol, so that leaves out "Ukrainian Orthodox Grannies Holopchi Drive" in northern Minnesota. Will atheists and agnostics need to register as 'faith based' before they can get any part of this?
Aside from those obvious problems already anecdotally alleged in many 'faith based' situations in the US, I can't help but flash on the Chinese 'block watchers' method of keeping neighbourhoods 'secure', with little old ladies assigned to hawkishly spy on everyone's behaviour, reporting supposed infractions to the local Party teams, especially unPatriotic behaviour, like non-approved -talk-.
The question is, how do we keep it from happening /here/.
