"Now we have a completely different situation from three weeks ago"
Is he referring to his poll numbers?

One can only grieve at the lost of civilian life - still escalating.
Even the US is calling for a halt and sending aid... Canada is MIA... and only moved from endorsing to sanctioning civilian bombing.
The level of moral corruption on this file is shocking.

Now that the US and the Americans have hammered out a proposal for a UN resolution Mr. Harper should be receiving a memo from the White House any time now.

No, Harper doesn't pay any attention to polls, at least that is what his words say unlike his actions. Which is yet more evidence that Mr. Clean, Mr. Honesty himself is just as an accomplished liar as I concluded from the Grewal fraud he participated in and covered up when it started to blow up in his face. However, to think he can take one tone in Quebec and then quite another in ROC is bad enough, to think he can do so on an issue as sensitive and emotional as this one has been for so many and not have his words compared for consistency is truly demented.
Yet another example of his belief in Straussian politics, that the "noble lie" is an acceptable tool of politics/statecraft, especially by the elites that are the only ones fit to run a country, elites like himself and his party. Harper has time and time again bet on the ignorance and stupidity of the average voter to not pay sufficient attention to details and past actions/words. He only got away with it in the last election because the Libs were on the way out after the so called Income trust scandal was reported in the media thanks to the act of the RCMP releasing this information in the middle of an election. BTW, what ever happened to that investigation? Did it ever find anything or was it like Dingwall's expense account a scandal of fiction not of fact?
In any event this is just the latest example of IOKIYAC from Harper. Anything he does is somehow the will of Canadians regardless of what actual Canadians actually may think about something. His position on the current ME crisis was clearly rejected by a large majority according to polls yet only he and his position represents what Canadians truly think/believe. One of Harper's biggest weaknesses IMV is his tendency to tell Canadians what we think and that he knows our minds better than we do. This is one of many traits which could well bring down his government and party in the next election. If they cannot make gains against a Liberal party without a leader after the scandals that party had to deal with over the last few years by this point then they are in serious trouble. It shows their weaknesses far more than their strengths, and this idea that strong if wrong will sell in this country as it does in the States (hence all the talk about how decisive Steve is) I believe to be a serious misreading of the general public. This may be true within his core supporters, but I doubt it is true anywhere else.

Hi Dave
Thanks for the link to my cartoon.
It's the first in a series on The Adventures of Steve and Sandra.
Gotta love that headline from The Star:
Mideast taking a toll on Tories.
Poll : Harper seen as too cozy with the US.
PM likely to boost humanitarian aid

Well, at least he hasn't started to frame himself as a 'war Prime Minister (econonmist).' Let us hope he avoids that little ego trap.

Yes, Billmon nailed it pretty good.
Harper is so tranparently inept at formulating a foreign policy that actually reflects Canadian citizens' point of view that he is now exposed for what he really is - smart and lucky enough to become PM but unable to control the 'bucking bronco' once he gets to ride it. Total top-down control over government is finally blowing up in his face.
