But we NEED the debates! How else will we get the comprehensive sound-bites and longwinded promises of the candidates, with which to shame the liars, and reward the honourable candidates next time around?
(As for liars who can't be shamed -- we can use their sound-bites for audio-montages in Guy Madden films.)
These statements shouldn't be "gone with the wind", they should be cherished and remembered.

Voters are fed up with their vote not counting and now their opinion that they wanted May in the debates also not counting. Methinks there'll be a flood of new volunteers at Green Party associations in the next little while. Add me in as one of them.
It's shocking that they are so afraid of Elizabeth May turning these debates into actual... well.. debates, that they refuse to even bother showing up if she's there.
This has nothing to do with the media blocking the Greens, and everything to do with the fact that Harper, Layton and Duceppe openly acknowledged today that they are so scared of May and the Greens that they don't believe they could survive a fair and level debate with her.
That's quite a news story if you ask me.

But it won't last. The national media have just as much a stake in keeping her out as the other parties do.
The media narrative doesn't include her or her party and nothing must be allowed to disturb the narrative.
Not even democratic principles.
Democratic principle - tell that to the liberal riding association in Central Nova, and liberals supporters in that riding.
Or Jan, Layton who had handlers admit that he's too scared to face May in a debate on TV?
Screw the debates. Put the lot of them in a room with CCTV cameras, strip them to the waist and litter the floor with brine soaked willow switches. Whoever emerges from the room after two hours gets to make some campaign promises. If the duly elected leader breaks their promise, they go back in the room, hands bound, with constituents.
