Yep. According to Flaherty's logic when Bill Clinton raised taxes on the rich in the 90s then the US economy should have slowed down, the rich fleeing the country, and the rich making less money, yet the actual record was exactly the opposite. Yet once this tax cuts for the rich policy was put in place under GWB there has been a steady weakening of the fundamentals of the US economic and fiscal health. Yet again CPCers and those in particular like Flaherty are telling us to believe them and not our lying eyes. According to the CPC it appears our eyes lie to us all the time and we need the Harper/CPC corrective honesty lens (since we all know that politicians never lie/deceive us unlike our eyes according to the Harper/CPC, or at least CPC politicians never lie and all others do) to see reality.
The classic CPC spin in action, make unsupported claims as facts and treat anyone that dares challenge said "facts" as too partisan, too corrupt, too unacceptable in any way that they can discredit that person instead of simply providing the hard data/evidence to support their claim of fact. The IT case is an excellent example, the tax leakage the reversal was supposedly forced by has yet to be proven by this government, all they would do was release 18 blacked out pages. This strikes me as exactly the same sort of thing.
That it comes from the Luntz/Rove/Norquist/et al GOP playbook is also no surprise, especially given the close links historically between Harper and these groups throughout his political careers and even while running NCC. Yet to point this out is to be anti-American, or America bashing according to CPCers, what I have yet to understand is why is standing up for Canadian values, Canadian principles, and Canadian traditions/precedents a bad thing and preferring to work from Canadian originated methods and principles/policies than from American ones when one is a Canadian citizen talking about Canadian politics is America bashing/hatred. We all know why of course, it is easier to smear with deceit than it is to govern with honour/integrity, especially for the Harper CPC government. Not to mention the Harper CPC is well aware that being too closely identified with the GOP these days is seen as the political kiss of death in Canadian politics because of how radically extremist that party is even by the standards of the American political spectrum/context these days, let alone in terms of our political spectrum/context.
Not that I'm calling Flaherty a liar...
I will. He's a liar. But then I live in Ontario and have previous experience with Flaherty. And Clement (weasel!). And ... it just makes me tired.

Talk about doing nothing and having no relation to the event at hand, but being there to siphon off some of the reflected glory. Grrrrrr.
Memo to Flaherty: You're entitled to your opinions (utterly stupid as they may be), but NOT to your facts.
