Whooee! I asked a question on my boog story about this today:
When are we going to stand and say: "Not in my name!"?
MacKay sez he's never met the bastard. I ain't so sure. MacKay sez he never met Karlheinz Schreiber, too. MacKay don't always remember who he's met and who he ain't.
Whether or not Harper and MacKay are working directly with Khalid, Canadian troops are. From the article:
"Nevertheless, Mr. Khalid remains a key player in Kandahar and senior Canadian commanders and diplomats deal with him weekly. He is a regular visitor to the main Canadian base on Kandahar air field and Brigadier-General Guy Laroche and ambassador Arif Lalani routinely visit the governor's compound."
Okay, so we tell ICRC about these credible allegations and we get some sort of assurances from somebody somewhere that an investigation will be launched. We get no indication of such an investigation happening but we continue to work hand-in-hand with the suspected war criminal?!?
This is getting close to where we might expect Harper, O'Connor and MacKay to be charged with complicity in war crimes. No wonder they're so secretive. They're hiding evidence that Canada is collaborating with war criminals.

Just came from the comments section of the G&M article exposing this. The supporters of this 'New' government are really scary in their islamophobia and bloodlust, always maintaining, of course, that we are in Afstan to bring human rights and other democratic gifts to the girls and women. Yech! (And they want women voters to give them their majority?) Oh, and I saw a photo of Minister Pete and the guv somewhere today. And Steve, who was greeted by the Guv on one of his visits..

JS:
That's an insult to Colin Powell, and in my view not a small one either. MacKay never had the respect and credibility to destroy that Powell did from actually serving in the military for decades. MacKay's claim to fame is being the son the of the MP whose riding he holds (as well as Schreiber/Thyssan connections through his father and himself), betraying and selling out the PCPC to create this CPC monstrosity, and now lying to Canadians about this Afghan mission is easy for him. Powell clearly had issues with the orders given to him by his boss and argued against them privately even if he did carry them out publicly without telling what he knew and for that reason his dishonour while serious at least has some redeeming aspect to it however small it may be, I see no such thing where MacKay is concerned.
General:
I’m not surprised by this latest, disgusted and angered yes, surprised no. This is exactly how this government operates, nothing can tarnish the mission (especially since Harper went out of his way to identify with it and the military once he came to power not to mention the CPC rhetoric about being the only party that cares for/respects the military), especially not reality when it shows Canada aiding in the torture of prisoners captured by Canadian soldiers. The dishonour this CPC government brings to our soldiers, on our nation’s name and on all of us as citizens is no small amount with this. One more reason why Harper’s CPC must not only be defeated in the next election but soundly rejected to repudiate this sort of dishonourable conduct done in our names.
