Can you imagine the uproar if they found a bullet-riddled Bible in an AlQuaeda training camp?
Of course, that, too, would be just an isolated incident...

At least in this case the military has made apologies, with the commander of the the 4th Infantry Division, Maj Gen Jeffery Hammond showing up in the village to make a formal apology to the local Sunni tribe. Then the Col, commanding the 1st Brigade of the 4th Div, presented a new Quran to the local sheikhs.

Can't think of a better use for a Koran (or a Bible for that matter) than use it for target practice or toilet paper. (i don't smoke so it would be no use for me as rolling papers)
Of course if you're trying to make nice with a muslim local populace, seems like a retarded thing to do...

Sailor,
You can have your opinion on religion. For me though, basic human decency suggests not trashing another's holy book anymore than you would disparage members of their family. For many of the religiously inclined, religious texts are as real and as sacred to them as family. I am as repulsed by some asshole shooting a Koran as I am someone shredding Bibles in front of Christians because it demonstrates a profound level of disrespect for fellow human beings.

Right on, Boris. While you'd be hard pressed to call me religious (despite my latest blog), we have no business shitting on people who take comfort in religion.

It's better that he used the Koran for target practice rather than Iraqis though, don't you think.
It's just a book, people.
