I found that, the best way with my kid is to pile compliments on him to encourage him - he loves flattery (at such young age too).
Sigh... kids todays are so different from how we all used to be. In our time, the solution is always connected to a rod (rotan). I had to suffer my mom's famous "laser-eye" stare too - next, to her "machine-gun" round of firings. LOL. My eardrums "berkecai alreadi by the time she finishes". Sigh..
Sometimes, I even find 'em (kids) to be somewhat cunning in a way - I am amazed by their ability or skill to coax i.e. manipulate an adult to do things for them easily.
My piece of advise to you is to brain-wash Sasha on all good things about school and don't forget to mention all the fun things she gets to do there and all.
Sometimes, encouragements is all that a child need to excel and learn.
But, bear in mind that this method needs a hell lot of patience - and i know this is not one of your strong point :D Good luck!

You sure she is just lazy? Sometimes kids have reasons for thier behavior, but just don't know how to express it.

I agree with nicktay's idea - it only normal for kids to struggle to express themself as they haven't mature enough to have that type of social skill like us grownups do.
