Hi y'all. I'm finally home from an 11 day stay at the hospital. My "outpatient" surgery didn't go so well, so I was admitted. Finally got home yesterday with 3 different kinds of antibiotics and a few other medicines.
I'm on the mend. I stayed as active as possible in the hospital with as many walks around the floor as possible. Last night I went for a walk. I realize that I may have underestimated the benefits of fresh air and sunshine. It was good to be outside.
I still have to eat pureed foods for a while. Did you know that you can puree pretty much anything in a blender. Of course that doesn't mean that you should. I tried pureed mac and cheese. Could'a been pureed glue.
Anyway, I'm back. Didn't want to post until I was pretty sure I'm out of the proverbial woods.
I was sooo glad to see my dog and cat.
And thank goodness for insurance. I don't know where I would be without it.

listener, thanks for the bluebird photo. I haven't seen a bluebird here in a very long time. I haven't seen the hummingbird territorial dance exactly, but I have seen a ruby throat defend a territory from another hummingbird. He put up quite a racket with a lot of bravado for such a small guy.
I started bringing in small zebra longwing caterpillars and eggs again this year, because they lay tons of eggs on the small amount of corky stemmed passion vine I have in my yard, not nearly enough for all those caterpillars to grow up. Then I go to a neighbor who has a lot of hybrid passionvine, as well as a vacant lot in another neighborhood where there is some of the native passionvine, maypop, or passiflora incarnata. There I can get enough food for them. Don't know why I'm doing this again, as it take a lot of effort and makes for constant tending and cleaning up the utility room, where I keep them. It doesn't save the world. As soon as the mosquito spray truck comes around, most of them are flattened. And I guess they have a pretty short life anyway. It's kind of a meditation to work with caterpillars and butterflies, but it is a distraction from things I really need to concentrate on and finish.
Bailey the chocolate lab is his usual sweet self. He is getting more sleep at night now and not coughing quite so much. He is having to go out a little less. After another week, I can cut the lasix dose in half, supposedly. He does not look very sick at all, but he can't do very much walking and no running. No going up and down steps and following me everywhere. He is pretty good at staying when I tell him to stay. He was first in his class at Canine University.

Jessica, your computer probably has a capture function on it where you can automatically get the video like if you open it in Realplayer or Windows Media player. I don't know what they are on a Mac but there is a way to save when you are in the application itself. You can always do print screen too to get screen shots.

My horoscope for today...I had to laugh. Pretty fitting.
"You've got to take care of some financial issues that aren't going anywhere on their own. It's a good time to tackle serious problems -- or to clear away obstacles to investment or growth."

Going fishing for a week while wife bakes on the beach. We do meet up for supper and dancing in the evenings...lol
I won't be able to light a candle for Ally 'till I return but I'll be thinking good thoughts for her listener. I tried last night to send a little $$$ Cheryl's way but my card wouldn't go through paypal...glad to see others stepped up to the plate to help you Cheryl. When I get back it'll be full speed ahead with Dem. Comm. stuff. Jessica...we should talk sometime about Symington/Pollina (I like both of them...lol about Douglas getting pied!)
Later all...hope I don't return as a lobster (I do have a carload of sunscreen...lol).

What good vibes here! So many good people. Guess we're not homeless after all.
Cloudy and humid here, we need rain, a good drenching. Lots of bees in our meadow this year, huge thumb sized bumble bees, and I found a honey bee asleep on a rose leaf next to a blossom this morning.

I hope you do get rain. We have been getting a little a few days each week and it has cooled it down and made it much prettier here. June was horrible with the heat. The only bad part is the days are hot and humid until the storms finally hit which is usually early evening.

If it is a flash video (like YouTube is, in disguise) and if you have a Mac and the Safari browser, it can be done. I forget the details, but they can be found by googling. In short, the computer has to download the file into a temporary folder somewhere, and for that reason you can dig it out--maybe rename it--and save it.)

Demetrius has been working on a computer animation project, so tonight was the first chance we've had in a while to do something as a family. Watched a couple episodes of Futurama on DVD.
I did make it to the pool yesterday and today to do some water aerobics.
But now I'm tired and resting on the couch in the living room. Still no AC in the office, and it gets pretty warm in there.
Stevie, the cat, has sensed my moment of weakness here, and is kneading on me with all four feet.

Hi, Renee.
Good to hear you had some family time. You sure do exercise a lot. I wish I could. Hopefully down the road when this heat is gone. A few years ago it was so painful to walk, especially in my knees and hips but that has gotten better. For some reason the only thing that helps that and weight loss for me is cleanses.Must be a toxicity issue.

Denise, tell Mainefem "hello" and that we miss her. I can relate to the long walks though I don't do it until late at night when it cools and rarely do 4 miles, and then stop to rest inside buildings. which means I leave a good 3 hours before I have to be somewhere. I think she has to walk further if I recall. Wish so badly I could have gone to DemFest last year to meet her. I hope everything works out a LLBean.

Hi friends,
Excellent post, listener.
kheart! Hello!
Donna, yikes! Very glad you're home with your furry friends.
Went to see the new Indianna Jones this afternoon. Most enjoyable, as Indianna Jones always is. The cinema was air conditioned, of course, so lovely and dry as opposed to the dreadful, oppressive humidity outdoors.
Finally got my audiobook of The Last Battle yesterday, after nearly a week's wait. You know how, when it isn't important, the order comes the next day, but when you really need it, it takes forever. Well, it finally came. Read by Capt. Jean Luke Picard. *grin* What a voice! He's a marvelous reader. The Last Battle has never been a favorite Narnia book, but reading it again after so many years, I saw all sorts of interesting things that hadn't been apparent when I was young. And, did I mention the reader is *really* good?

Deleting and reposting (the "edit" option seems to have disappeared)
I don't exercise nearly as often as I should. Didn't quite last half an hour yesterday because the batteries on my waterproof MP3 player ran down and I've gotten spoiled by having my music. Anyway, between the two days, it was only an hour of water aerobics. Trying to get back in a regular habit, but I'm not quite there yet. When all the "planets are properly aligned", I can do my best creative thinking/brainstorming while doing water aerobics. Today wasn't one of those days, though. Guess I was too tired. Should get myself to bed early tonight. Take care everyone.
And *wave* to all the people who have stopped by in the past couple days. (I won't try to address you all by name, because I just know I'd leave somebody out.)

I know. I had those 32 years ago! Yes, they did make them back then but I didn't care for them. They really didn't get dark enough to protect my eyes, but just dark enough to not go light fast enough when I walked inside. My confirmation photos I was wearing them and now wished I had not because I looked good otherwise.
My last ones I got a light tint but they didn't put the right one on and argued with me about it when they should have replaced it free. I wasn't in the mood for the stress so I let it go. My Mother used to work at an eye doc place. She looks really good in a lot of frames. I need certain ones with my weird face.

Susan, recently when I was musing about what sort of super power I would want to have, I was thinking invisibility. But not for the usual reasons people give, like being able to sneak into places they aren’t supposed to be. More like being able to sneak into places I’m *supposed* to be, but undetected. Arriving in my classroom a few minutes early, for example, and being able to prepare without being thronged by questions.

The computer is doing just fine, thank you. It's the computer's owner who is going mad! Have you ever tried writing, either on a fiction project or a paper, and had to save after every four or five words because you didn't know when the computer would freeze? I have extreme sensitivity to light since childhood. Mine is linked to my adrenal issues and some subsequent crap stupid doctors and teachers did to me. I have gone through phases where it has improved dramatically and is better now than a few years ago. I have issues with my pupils not dilating properly which makes the light issue bad. A fairly new thing is I found out flickering fluorescent lights, even flickering that is undetectable by the average person, triggers my seizures too.
I know this young woman who has the worst dilation problems I have ever seen. They just stay large. Worse than mine ever were. I told her she needs to get that checked and her adrenals too. I asked if light hurts her eyes nd she said "horribly". I said "that is because your pupils are letting too much light in and not constricting, which is also damaging to the eyes." I haven't seen her since then so next time I do, will have to ask how the doc appt. went. Her pupils were nearly as large as the iris even in bright light.

Demetrius, they were called something else even before PhotoGray. I don't recall anymore because it has been over 30 years. I started glasses at 2 years old. Didn't have to have eye surgery like my cousin so that was good. I did have the big cat eye ones though, super thick that make your eyes look freaky huge because I was farsighted. Not good when you have big eyes to begin with. They did have these little fake diamonds on the corners though. At least there is that, lol.
There is this photo of me when I was about 4 with them and my Mother style my hair in this high, old ladies style. I think she must have been insane. I look at them now and want to cry. This little kid in these old looking glasses and hair. It is like the parents that dress their kids up inappropriately for beauty pageants except mine was trying to make me look like an 80 year old granny. :P

As far as hospital experiences go, mine was as good as your going to get. Still, it is good to be home, you bet'cha.

I have those sunglasses that go on over regular glasses. Like them a lot. And, I don't care if they're unattractive. They're comfortable and have side pannels which ordinary sunglasses don't, which is nice.

I guess PhotoGray and Transitions are actually different technologies. You can only get PhotoGray in glass lenses - which hardly anyone makes anymore. (They worry about shattering.) I like glass lenses because I want to be able to clean my glasses with whatever tissue or shirt tail is handy without worrying about scratching them. No namby-pamby plastic lenses for *me*! Heck... I could throw my glasses in the dishwasher if I wanted.

I agree. I like glass too. Last longer, less scratches, etc. Mine were glass up until the last pair.
I remember always break my bows though and my parents were always mad because they could not afford replacements. My Dad started to create his own with his welder. HA! My senior year when they broke on one side I just wore them like that.

I swear my fingers cannot match my brain because I keep leaving parts of words off. Idiot!
