Hi everyone. I've decided I'm going to live today. I'm extremely sick and wasn't so sure I would make it through yesterday. Dogma has gone to stay at my Gramma's in hopes that she won't catch it.

I'm 99% sure it's strep throat. I used to get it a lot (like 4-5 times a year) when I was a teenager, but now I only get it like once a year. I'm on the no insurance recovery plan, which mostly involves suffering through it...

OK this upsets me in many ways. NOW from New York State came out with this little ditty.
They offend me by saying women are betray by men if they don't support a women for president
http://readme.readmedia.com/news...President/

Senator Ted Kennedy Betrays Women by Not Standing for Hillary Clinton for President
Ultimate Betrayal Felt by Women Everywhere
ALBANY, NY (01/28/2008; 1101)(readMedia)-- Women have just experienced the ultimate betrayal. Senator Kennedy’s endorsement of Hillary Clinton’s opponent in the Democratic presidential primary campaign has really hit women hard. Women have forgiven Kennedy, stuck up for him, stood by him, hushed the fact that he was late in his support of Title IX, the ERA....And now the greatest betrayal! We are repaid with his abandonment! He’s picked the new guy over us
**and they lie about Howard Dean and DFA***
He’s joined the list of progressive white men who can’t or won’t handle the prospect of a woman president who is Hillary Clinton (they will of course say they support a woman president, just not “this” one). “They” are Howard Dean and Jim Dean (Yup! That’s Howard’s brother) who run DFA (that’s the group and list from the Dean campaign that we women helped start and grow)

I have been thinking about Edwards. I had wanted him to drop out but know I think it is better for him to stay in the race to distract votes away from Hillary.
Both my sister and dad who live in FL are going to vote for Edwards. They like his more liberal stance and both don't think a black can win in the general election.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I think Edwards will pull votes from Hillary in the South (as we saw in South Carolina), mostly pull votes from Obama elsewhere. But it's important to remember that these are not winner-take-all elecions. Edewards will be accumulating delegates and the ultimate question will be who he throws them to.
It's entirely imaginable that Edwards' delegates will hold the balance. In a way, that may have been what Howards was referring to, without being allowed to say so explicitly. Hillary and Barack may emerge from Feb. 5 with neither having such a commanding lead that Edwards' delegates are irrelevant. But it Edwards announces his choice by mid-March -- which is what Howard was implicitly encouraging -- it could be over.
Yes, Edwards *says* he's in it until the convention. At this point in time, that's the way to keep his supporters energized. But in terms of getting some sort of quic pro quo, holding his delegates until the convention could easily be counterproductive. If one of the other candidates takes most of the post-Feb. primaries, Edwards' delegates could become largely meaningless. A lot depends on what happens Feb. 5, but a mid-March decision is likely to make sense.
Would have been more appropriate for the previous thread, but here goes anyway:
My mourning for the Dean camaing is behind me. I was in deep mourning for about 24 hours after the Iowa vote. Then I girded my loins and said, "What next?" What next was Wisconsin. I managed to spend three days there. On the evening of election day, as I was standing with the group that had been knocking on doors to get out the vote, the staffer in charge said, "We all know what the results are going to be," and asked each of us meantion one thing about the day that made us feel good. I said, "I feel good because I know I've done all I can." That provided a sense of closure. And it was completed by spending a number of hours over the next month trying to get Dean a delegate in the Illinois primary.
Then I moved on the the Cegelis campaign, as Howard had taught me to do.
I'm glad you could do that, Bill.
It sounds like it worked well for you.
Not so easy to do for me, as I was still answering phones at Dean HQ,
even a little after Iowa,
and I knew some of the people
who had been sleeping on people's couches
and eating whatever was around
and working day and night,
and were suddenly without a job.
Moreover, I have five children and most of them had volunteered.
So I couldn't just pick up and move forward on my own.
There were others I was close to and I needed to be there for them.
Then we got Bush again.
And more people died, and lost jobs and lost health benefits, and lost food on the table.
So I admit that I had the WouldaShouldaCouldas for awhile,
even as I moved on, y'know?
Jessica--My father had strep infections as a kid, back in the days before antibiotics. After that came rheumatic fever. Then a seriously damaged heart, which ultimately led to his death. Strep throat is not something to be ignored. And an incomplete course of antibiotics is not good either. You go look up a public health clinic, hear?
Hi, Renee. Yes, that NY NOW letter sure is something else, isn't it? Estrogen poisoning, maybe [he ducks!]?
I did a little follow-up on Obama's foreign policy advisers, and in the process pulled up some of his own statements. I am deeply troubled by his and his advisers' evident hostility to Iran, and general acceptance of the Bush-Cheney line on same. There are some hints that he might do things that would temper his actions somewhat, but only hints. I want to see change in relations with Iran, Cuba and Venezuela--and I don't see evidence that such will come from Obama, not that it would come from HRC or JE either. Trying to take a real politik view of it, perhaps the facts on the ground will overpower any such tendencies. I hope. But I'm not sure.
I think I have a mild Peroneal Tendon Dislocation injury to my left ankle.
When Thankful was here I was hobbling sometimes with it.
Took me awhile to discover what it might be.
I never noticed when it happened.
I read that it is common among skiers and ballet dancers.
Well, I don't think I was skiing in the hallway at 5:30am,
but I may have performed a variation on a ballet maneuver.
On my way back to bed I paused to look out the window to see if the dawn was yet rising.
It wasn't, unfortunately.
In the dark I set my right foot down on the cat's tail,
then did a sort of auto-correct maneuver such that she didn't get my full weight
(though she did meow out in surprise).
After my apology I went to bed.
In the morning I had an issue!
It's still a bit swollen, so I have ace-bandaged it.
I hope it's better tomorrow so I don't have to get it x-rayed.
How much damage could there be when
I didn't even know anything had happened until the next day!
I just finished watching the Kennedy-Obama speeches at American University on C-SPAN. I don't think I have ever seen such a long speech by Ted Kennedy; he and Obama both gave first-rate speeches. Remember me mentioning the other night that my friend Terri, of the MSPCA, was on TV in Boston talking about matching dogs to candidates?
Well, she was also on TV this week regardin the plight of pets, who are being left behind in locked houses by families losing their houses to foreclosure.
It is SUCH a sad situation! Well, earlier tonight I wrote her a note saying:
If families haven't lost their home but money is too tight to afford a pet, is there a sort of "Food Shelf" for animals? Might people donate to a Pet Food Shelf, so that people can pick up good food for their pets, and thus keep them longer? It would help the animals, keep the MSPCA from being so overcrowded that animals have to be euthanised, and it would certainly be good comfort for familes, especially for the sense of well being of the children.
She wrote back that she's going to look into it!
Does anyone know of any state that maintains a Pet Food Shelf?
CNN is restricting appearances by two of its high-profile commentators, James Carville and Paul Begala, until the Democratic presidential contest is resolved. Because both are personal supporters of Hillary Clinton, says CNN political director Sam Feist, they have not appeared since November, except as Clinton advocates balanced by spokesmen for one or more of her rivals. The policy, first reported by Talkingpointsmemo.com, followed complaints from Barack Obama's camp.
I guess having been born and bred in Massachusetts has made me a bit cynical Teddywards. =Sigh=
Oh--I watched the movie "Evita" starring Madonna (first film of hers I have seen, I believe). I was surprised it was a musical--not normally my thing, but decided to watch it ennyhoo, and it was enjoyable. Not unreasonably far from history, I find from Wikipedia.
