Our planet is, apparently, a "screamer".

Earth emits an ear-piercing series of chirps and whistles that could be heard by any aliens who might be listening, astronomers have discovered."

Gravatar Hi!

Back, but line's still berry buggy (or would that be very vuggy?). No guarantees.

Missed ya'll. With luck, a week's worth of updates will be on baby, soon. . . .

Gravatar Hi friends,

Nothing much to say, just looking in. Jake Clark tells me he's joined HEP, but I can't get it together to read through back threads just now. Got an achy head and lots to do... *yawn*

BBL, maybe.

Gravatar puddle...feel free to paraphrase the Ally updates!

Gravatar ON THREAD:

I visited a wonderful 94 year old friend yesterday.
She said, "I already know that I am voting for Obama;
so I have stopped listening to the talk shows
because what's the point?"

Ah, wisdom.

Gravatar Renee...Do as you need...
but please don't stay away altogether.

We're not THAT political here
and we're more about community anyway.

Gravatar "...berry buggy (or would that be very vuggy?). ...

I'd go with Berry Buggy. It sounds like a flavor of sherbet... churned the Old Fashioned way... as if by the Amish. Yummm!

Gravatar Okay: the updates are *finally* on baby. . . .

Line was truly crappy after I posted last time. Since I'd only had three hours sleep, I just gave up and took a seven hour nap.

Line seems much more stable now (been up for 20 minutes, as opposed to 3 -- on average -- earlier.)

Ok there are a lot of duplicate names on the list but membership at this group is well above 9000.

On topic,

Now that Obama is the nominee, Progressives should be focusing on the Congress and Senate, as well as the entire downticket.

Obama is said to be supporting Blue Dogs over Progressives in several races. These would seem to be logical pressure points.

Gravatar Demetrius,

I found the Earth's harmonic signature to be compelling. Not a scream or cry at all. It kinda reminded me of a whale song in another language.

Gravatar Funny you should say that, Subway. From Demetrius' description, I immediately thought of the dolphins.

Gravatar Puddle, sounds like your line has been talking to my computer. It stays up for between approx. 30 seconds to maybe twenty minutes. So, I understand!

Gravatar I've finally learned how to create screen captures. Or, to put it another way, I've finally learned what the Print Screen key on my keyboard is for. It's only been, what, twenty-five years or so since I got my first computer. Uh, guess you could call me a slow learner.

Gravatar Oops! It's about an hour later than I thought. Better betake myself to bed.

Good night, friends.

Gravatar Between the line, and the computer, and earthlink. . . . miracle I'm not just plum krezzy, lol!

Night all, sweetest of dreams.

Gravatar Howdy, all. Gotta hit the sack soon--should have well before now. Will have to check out the Obama speech. Very nice photo at the top of the thread--look at it and you just know it's a nice family. I would like to vote for Obama--but I can't figure him out so far. Gotta think about it.

Hasta luego...

Gravatar I read quite a bit of the speech, and skimmed the rest. Yes, well crafted. But I am disturbed that Obama evidently believes, or pretends to believe, those hackneyed old right-wing propaganda claims about those terrible 1960's antiestablishment types and how they were unkind to the soldiers. He could have talked about how patriotic the many soldiers who mutinied were, but he didn't. He could have talked about the cooperation between the soldier and the "antiestablishment" types, but he didn't. Dang, that sort of thing bothers me. The man is far too quick to accept right-wing talking points for his own, it seems to me. Am I to vote for him on the assumption that he will change his spots once he is in power? In 1972 I thought Nixon had changed his spots, and I voted for him. He hadn't. Well, we'll see.

Gravatar Good Morning!

WASHINGTON — Senator Barack Obama’s decision to support legislation granting legal immunity to telecommunications companies that cooperated with the Bush administration’s program of wiretapping without warrants has led to an intense backlash among some of his most ardent supporters.

Gravatar cont:

Thousands of them are now using the same grass-roots organizing tools previously mastered by the Obama campaign to organize a protest against his decision.

In recent days, more than 7,000 Obama supporters have organized on a social networking site on Mr. Obama’s own campaign Web site. They are calling on Mr. Obama to reverse his decision to endorse legislation supported by President Bush to expand the government’s domestic spying powers while also providing legal protection to the telecommunication companies that worked with the National Security Agency’s domestic wiretapping program after the Sept. 11 attacks.

Gravatar The Woodstock of Schadenfreude?

With $4-a-gallon gas coming between drivers and their very large vehicles, consumers are dropping their once-beloved rides, fast. But not fast enough, it seems. As the price of gas has gone up, the value of sport-utility vehicles has gone down.

In the past six months, the price of a used Chevrolet Suburban has dropped as much as $8,000, said Mike Parker, manager of used-car sales at Lustine Toyota/Dodge in Woodbridge.

For those determined to swap their fuel-thirsty behemoths for gas-sipping subcompacts, the glut increasingly means taking a financial hit. In the worst cases, declining SUV values leave owners owing more money to the bank than their vehicle is worth...

Gravatar Ally's Mom's special request...

WEDNESDAY, JULY 02, 2008 05:40 PM, EDT

Well, today went so well, I am a little scared of what is coming next. Today was kind of the first "break" we had. EVERYONE was working furiously by the time we got there to shuffle things around, so Ally could do her hearing test while she was "under" the first time. They worked some magic (made some other family change their time) and we were out of the hospital by 1:00 this afternoon! PLUS the audiologist said she detected NO HEARING LOSS!

So here is why I am scared: tomorrow we find out if she is randomized to 1 transplant or 2. Things went so well today that I think we are jinxed for the randomization. So.......for those of you who like to pray for something specific pray, pray, pray for 1 transplant!

PS: Ally finally weighs 18 pounds!

Gravatar I agree with you Alan.

Subway, I heard it was up to 11,000, the fastest growing Obama group.

Found out some good news today. At Netroots Nation, they have some really good exhibitors. One of them is an Autism group. Can't wait to meet them. One of the groups I belong to is just so encouraging to listen to the success these parents are having immersed in the struggles with their kids. I mean, when you kid hasn't talked in two years and suddenly can form complete sentences, that is HUGE! I get addicted to reading those.

Pretty Bird Woman House is also an exhibitor. I donated to them when their domestic shelter was destroyed. Would love to meet Georgia, the founder. She started it when her sister was raped and killed. Andy, who blogged about it to get donations a year or so ago, is paying for her to attend because Netroots Nation couldn't afford her full scholarship. Cool! They are taking donations so not so much comes out of Andy's pocket.

Gravatar Thanks for the updates, listener! I will go light a candle now.

{NO hearing loss is AWESOME news!!!}

Gravatar Oh, I got two of the women confused...the director will be at NN but the person who started it is someone different:

"The person who started Pretty Bird Woman House is Jackie Brown Otter. She did it in memory of her sister, Pretty Bird Woman, who was raped and murdered. Georgia Little Shield is the director of Pretty Bird Woman House. About seven Lakota Sioux (some may be Dakota Sioux - my apologies if I have gotten this wrong) women have been the core of this whole project, they nurtured the dream and made it reality."

The history is here including the second fundraising drive that was done in late 2007 where they got a new building.

Gravatar That is the cutest picture of the Obama family, Renee. Wish I was feeling a little more enthusiastic about him than I am right now. Howard is still the only politician who never disappointed me. - Well, kinda when he didn't change ad companies, but not over principles.

Gravatar Oh, and GREAT news about Ally. I lit a candle for one transplant.

Gravatar Thanks for the (((Hugs))). Bailey the chocolate lab is hanging in there. Hope all goes well for Ally. Keeping her in prayers.

Gravatar Tried to post earlier today, but could not. Don't know why. Demetrius, maybe Earth is calling for HELP!

Gravatar {{{SUPER VIBES}}} headed Ally's way.

Daughter brought little Savannah (almost a month old now) to her first political rally last night. Slept through most of it...I guess she's not interested yet...lol
