Gravatar OK I decided on the Grand Canyon IMAX and I"m really glad I did. It had a major environment message and if you get a chance to see it somewhere, please do.

The Grand Canyon, the Colorado River that runs through it and the larger Southwest region, is under threat of changes on a geologic scale. Lake Powell and Lake Mead, which supply drinking water to the region, could dry up within years, in part due to a decades-long drought that could persist for decades more, in part due to global warming and the melting of mountain snowpack that supplies the Colorado River with water, and in part due to chronic mismanagement and over-reliance on the river for multiple competing uses: agriculture, drinking water and wildlife.

Gravatar Hey, Denise.

We've had some wild weather coming through here. I keep bracing for a power outage.

But since we *do* still have power, people here are riveted to their respective video games.

Gravatar Hi Renee!

Soon I will be riveted to a fresh fish dinner. I'm surprised it didn't rain here today but it is thankfully cool.

Enjoy your games. I always say I'm going to start playing some because I like games of skill. I used to be a mean pinball player

Gravatar I should have clarified "people other than me".

Enjoy your fish, Denise.

Gravatar OK I'm off - Cubs dropped another one to the White Sox. Turnabout is fair play I guess.

Gravatar Another crazy day!

Well, actually, the first part went fine. We set up a table for Dogma and Anthony Pollina at our town's summer celebration day. We brought the kids. Lots of fun in the sun...

Then suddenly this horrendous storm came through. I kept hoping it would pass, but finally gave up on that hope and we all got totally soaking wet trying to load the literature, signs, tables, etc back into the car.

We made it about 20 feet down the driveway leaving and the windshield wipers stopped working. It was absolutly pouring and there was no way I could drive without wipers. I tried to fix them (because I couldn't get any wetter then I already was), but I'm just not a mechanic. Someone that was there offered us a ride home, so Dogma, Son*in*VT, Daughter*in*VT, Son'sFriend*in*VT, and I all piled into their van, leaving my car stranded there...

Then, I find out that Anthony Pollina suddenly had something unexpected come up and can't get to the event we had planned for him tonight in our neighboring town. I did at least have like 10 minutes to throw on dry clothes, but then I had to drive up there in our other car and tell the people that showed up that the event was cancelled. The people were really nice and understanding, but it was still a hard thing to have to announce.

Then I had to come home and get Husband*in*VT, drive back up to the stranded car (which he fixed in like 30 seconds with a screwdriver!) and now I'm finally home and exhausted!

Gravatar I wasn't sure where this song was going when I first heard it. But, it's SO true. Here's the lyrics (most of it's spoken word) and a click to hear the song.

Rob Balder - A Song About a Train

Gravatar Interesting story Alan.

Good song D.

I head off today for a week in WI for a family reunion at our cottage. We will be having a belated memorial service for my mom.

It is an internet, cable free zone

Gravatar Denise, are you around? Is there any better (cheaper) day/time to book a flight then other days/times? They were high, then lower, now higher. Do you think they'll go back down again?

Gravatar Hi Jessica,

Just got home from Boston so just seeing this now.

Airlines sell according to what they need to sell - typical supply and demand. That is why there are "weekend" specials but they go on sale a few days before the weekend. If demand is high, then the cost is high.

Flights tripled in cost in the past few months, too.

Have you tried Priceline? You have to be flexible regarding times and days. Flying mid week and either very early or very late is cheaper. Non stops are more expensive than one or two connections.

I know, it's a pain....

Gravatar Hey der,

I spoke with donna - she had a minor surgical procedure done earlier this week and is recuperating. She is fine. Her son is around to take care of things. She says she hope you are surviving without her wit and ruminations (no she didn't I said that).

Miss ya donna, come home soon!

Gravatar Get well soon Donna!

*** ALLY UPDATE...All Good! ***

It has been a super weekend! Ally has been in a fantastic mood, we have been able to get a couple of walks in between the raindrops, she is eating during the day, her TPN is going smoothly at night, AND she is sleeping from 8PM to about 5AM without waking up!!! This means good sleep for mom and dad too!

She has started to take some steps again, we expect her to be back where she was before surgery soon. She is also a little chatter box lately. It is SOOOOOO much fun to have a good natured Ally who is not in pain or uncomfortable in anyway!

Monday is our big day in Boston at Dana Farber, when they tell us what to expect for the transplant. The docs at Ally's hospital said it is a pretty intensive day. We will also set up a date for her to go down there to actually start treatment.

Tuesday and Wednesday are 2 separate day trips to Ally's usual hospital.

We have a pretty busy week, but at least we have Friday off!
