Gravatar The CLP is NEP in action.
The idea being to restrict the no. of non-bumi lawyers.
Mahathir explained the NEP as `taking way the mercedes` from the nons sop all would drive protons. Idiotic. The NEP is nothing but a form of the `jizya`. And that`s why it can never be removed.

Gravatar Request "fair" treatment from a tainted system itself? That's asking a lot

Gravatar are you surprised that many law grads from foreign unis prefer to stay away? or better still, they opt out of practicing law in m'sia and work elsewhere with the proven competencies they have.

Gravatar Howsy, you are right - CLP exam is the best kept secret. The fact remains is that those from local U don't have to sit for the CLP as they automatically qualify to be a Bar member. Those sitting for the CLP are basically students from University of London, 99% of them are Indians and Chinese. The CLP board made it difficult, the reason, you can guess. It's a mockery. In fact the Bar council should be entrusted to conduct the CLP rather than an administrator whose examiner are local graduates and whose credentials are unknown.

I can accept that 90% failed as many of them lacks the complete knowledge of law and in particular, Malaysian law. What should be encouraged is that students with LLB must have at least 2-3 years of chambering before they are allowed to sit for the CLP. This is similar to Engineer and Architects who must have at least 5 years experience before they are allowed to sit for the AR and IR. However, it must include local U LLB graduates who graduate because the local exams are "Friendly" and "Assisted". It is ridiculous that a local LLB graduate can become a magistrate upon graduation. I can bet they hardly have the knowledge of law and jurisprudence.

Gravatar If the CLP is such a 'killer' exam, then why call it 'certificate' anyway. Shouldn't it be called something else. It is so misleading.

Gravatar there is a quota for this exam. i read it from the news article-ex CLP board director found guilty in the Star.
