I felt very uneasy after reading the statement made by the Regent of Kelantan pertaining to Malay rights in the Malaysiakini. I have always thought that Malaysian royalties should devoid themselves from politics but from the tone made by the Regent, he appeared to be another politician, an UMNO one at that. We, the non-Malays are not asking for special (or doesn't he know) right but our rights to be treated fairly like any others. If Ahmad is given 10 sens, it is quite okay if Ah Chong and Muthu can get 7 sens each. But the situation is Ah Chong and Muthu are not getting 2 sens or nothing at all. After all, we pay the same taxes as our Malay brethren. Therefore isn't it our right that we be treated fairly. Today, the non-Malays are unhappy because the poor Malays are not even getting their dues. The March 8 GE reflected the unhapiness of everyone even among the Malays themselves. So what special rights are we talking about? Or is the Regent referring to the UMNO special rights?
