Not to defend the Palin part of this too much, but these people are angry with good reason. When not being ignored they are the group of Americans who are being driven pillar to post by fear. I have great sympathy for these mostly working class people that are looking for a solution through dark glasses of ignorance, racism, and identity politics.
To them any professional politician is suspect with anyone who says they are out to help them as being even more suspicious. Palin symbolizes the upside down aspect of their world. They are deluded enough to think that this narcissist would put things back "in order" after the last years of job losses, economic warfare against the Middle Class and no-bid contract looting by the Republicans.
Note that they are convinced at present that the Republican Party is the correct vehicle for them because of God, guns and gays. Subtlety is not their strong suit nor is a clear understanding of what is really going on outside of their immediate circle.
Who do you blame, those that are being duped or those that are doing the duping? Or the Democratic Party for not doing a better job of reaching these people with a message that can both reverberate with them and hold to progressive values?
They still have to take responsibility for separating the bullshit from the truth, and in the past 8 years, it hasn't been that hard.
