Fighting Liberals

Gravatar I don't think it'll make a bit of difference who is appointed CEO of these companies. They could put Bill Gates himself (or Warren Buffet) in charge and they'll still be saddled with astronomical health care costs and various legacy costs that make a turn around nearly impossible.

Until these issues are addressed any solution is temporary and only delaying the inevitable. This crisis has been in the making for decades.

Side note: I suspect the head of HP (who I admit I don't know much about except that, yes, he has turned around their PC division) would succeed the way many technology companies succeed in increasing their profits - by farming out production overseas. And that is not going to help American workers.

Gravatar I know few people outside the auto industry are aware of this, but Ford was profitable in the first quarter of 2008.

That, of course, was just before the credit markets went south for the winter. There is no buying of $30,000 anything (much less family cars) without being able to take out a loan for it. When that capability, the entire North American auto market (including Nissan, Honda, Toyota, Mercedes, etc. etc.) crashed.

I think Mulally (formerly of the Boeing Commercial Airplane Company) is a turnaround artist, and absent this economic debacle...

(Full disclosure-- I was in the auto industry --not the big 2.5 but a supplier there to-- until one pm this afternoon. I really feel like kicking some financial firm CEO in the balls.)

Gravatar Some politician is going to have to lead the move to mandate cars and small trucks that do not get less than 25 mpg under practically any conditions.

And NO MAS of this bullshit about 10 years down the road. Do. It. Now.
The collective benefits of this have been talked about for years. All we need is a prez who will get behind it, and a congress who will enact the legislation.

If they won't do it, then everyone needs to stop complaining and accept the Panzers and the influence that "furrin oil" has over us, and the bailing out of these dinosaurs.

Oh. The congress also needs to make owning a Toyota or a Honda a federal crime. That will help Detroit.

Gravatar Senate Republicans to "real Americans":

Fuck off and Die.

I guess if you don't work for an investment bank, you're not a real American now.

Gravatar Thassit, Cea.

If there were unions on Wall St., it would be a different kettle of fish. :o)
