Gravatar I have met few people who don't look upon the NDN Sacrifice as a necessary stepping stool to the great illustrious Free America with Equal Rights for All. Which makes no sense but that hardly matters. When pressed the reponse will eventually be a frank, "To the winner go the spoils."

Gravatar It is interesting how deeply in denial we are about human rights. This bit of history at the Washita River is one horrible story in a litany of stories of our illustrious road to the west. That we don't experience a national sense of shame is inexplicable.

There are several layers of meaning attached to the Buddhist notion of karma, one of them being that we inherit our past whether we want to look at it or not. The effort to avoid shame, or looking at how we got here at all, makes the inheritance more complicated, but doesn't get us out of the soup. That's a screwed up metaphor, isn't it? Oh, well.
