i think racism is thriving, it just is more covert nowadays.

"the smirk" has become like a dull knife-to-the-heart, every time i see it.

did you see the statistics released about the over 6,000 still missing or unaccounted for, in new orleans?
how can that stand? could it be due to the fact that the majority of the missing are poor, and not white people?

Gravatar You remind me why I think we are a doomed people. Our indifference is killing us.

I was watching the President the other night. He was delivering some "speech" to a group of hand-picked people. Everything he said was utterly meaningless. Short quick sentences of platitudes. "We'll win the fight." Whatever. I was wondering why he says these inane things, and thought maybe what's true for him can not really be uttered in public. Who he really works for. Why he does what he does. What the purpose of our actions are. These are all secrets that he does not betray, ever. So, he smiles that horrible smirking smile. Multitudes drown in New Orleans. He utters empty phrases that get short applause. He smirks.

I liked it much better when the enemy was knowable and extreme.

Gravatar Annie, if I remember correctly, the number of missing people declined in the weeks following 9/11. With New Orleans, the number seems to be growing. The last figure I saw was about 5000 people missing. There is something very odd about this. I don't know whether they are dead, or (because they are poor and black) neither they nor the people who want to find them have the resources to contact one another. Or (most likely, perhaps) some combination of those two things. And of course relying on FEMA to be an intermediary between the missing and those who want to find them is not necessarily going to work out WRT the missing who are still alive.

Gravatar RD, the great mystery of President Bush is whether he has a secret agenda, or whether he is a pliant (though supposedly decreasingly amiable) tool of other people with secret agendas.
