Even when I had Times Select (I shared a subscription with my brother), I still found it easy to ignore Tom Friedman and David Brooks. I don't know why or how, but I stopped having a compulsion to read things that I know will provoke me and drive me crazy. I guess I prefer ignorance to their particular brand of "knowledge." How does Tom Friedman get to travel all over the world and walk through marketplaces at leisure? Is he really a CIA agent?

Sounds like you must have read the column where Friedman starts out by saying "In the last few weeks, I happened to visit Doha and Dalian, and I must say: I was stunned." I was stunned too, that anyone "happens" to find himself in Luzon and Iceland, or Kalaallit Nunaat and Palm Springs, or Doha and Dalian.
I guess the guy just can't hear himself.

Not to stray too far OT, but there is a YouTube clip of Caruso one liners that one must see if they've ever seen even a bit of the show. There is something satisfying in just how bad, how cheesy he is. I knew scenery was being gnawed upon, I just never realized how much.

The youtube clip is pretty funny. Then I noticed, and watched, a Jim Carrey clip where he did Caruso with the sunglasses. It's a very easy laugh, it seems.
