You brought him up so I'm going to comment on him. The U.S. has had seven years to bring Osama to justice but has failed to do so. We've listened to all the excuses as to why he can't be caught, and all of that is well and good. But the truth is, contrary to the statements of our president, Osama can run and he can hide.
The U.S. has spent hundreds of billions of dollars on the war on terror over the last five years. Yet, we still have not brought justice to the criminal who is responsible for the 9-11 attack on this country.
Of course, Osama isn't General Petraeus' responsibility. And he's surly not Ambassador Crocker's responsibility. In fact, the capture of Osama doesn't seem to be anyone's responsibility or concern.
Just a thought.

Andy,
How many criminals go unfound, both in the U.S and world-wide? Lots, right?
Further, is Osama really the D.D. Eisenhower of his "movement"? Are they the same thing? Do we want to put people into Pakistan to get him? What would the reaction be?
Taking down the real planners and real executors of plans may be more important.
I would like to see his head on a pike, but I don't think that were this so that our problems would just go away.
We have a serious world wide insurgency on our hands. This, isn't just a problem for the U.S. or Europe...it is a problem for everyone, including Muslims. The fanatical elements would drag us all back to the 11th Century.
As we are the biggest guy on the block, whether we like it our not, we are stuck with the job...more than others.
This, kinda/sorta is like being in a firefight and wondering "why me?". Because you are an 03 and not an Avionic Technician. Many are called, but few respond...and, in some cases, few can respond.
Wasn't it Kissinger who wondered whether democracies could survive in a world surrounded by dictators, oligarchies and fanantical thugdoms?
My son-in-law is in Fallujah just now. I worry and pray. Still, I believe we must win. Winning, as my students wonder, is much more complex and (in some ways) difficult than WW II.

I stopped in on your Townhall blog, but I forgot my login from when I had my blog there, so I came here of course.
I am slowly giving up on this country. It astounds me every time I hear these politicians speak. I have to wonder whose interests other than their own they have in mind.
I am one that no longer believes if for the people by the people. It is more for the politician, by the politician, and screw the rest of yah!
They have disrespected the General before horribly and now ever so subtly. It is disgusting.
Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton were pathetic and McCain's screw up make him look as much a fool as they are.
G-d bless our troops for surviving these idiots.

Andy, you seem like you have a reason for why we haven't caught (i almost typed Obama! seriously!) Osama!! What's up with that?
LAYLA...Sometimes I feel like giving up on this country, too..And, I'm sure like you, there is NOBODY more patriotic than I am. It's VERY tough to hear our own senators slam the people trying to protect us.
ANd, it's always dispiriting to see this happen in public. Nothing like telling Iran AND Iraq that we're running out of time, money and patience. AWFUL ... WHO THOUGHT THIS COULD HAPPEN IN AMERICA? OR TO AMERICA?
Thanks, Ted Kennedy.

Public hearings about a war and the possible exit date during a time of war is the height of stupidity. Furthermore, such hearings expose our weaknesses to the enemy.
As expected, the politicians present used the hearings for their own political gain and as a pr tool.

Why isn't anyone talking about Afghanistan?
That's where the enemy is (and now in Pakistan also). Seems to me if this were about "the enemy" we'd be talking about an effort aimed at the enemy instead of listening to these hearings which just try to justify the Bush administrations continued incompetence.
Oh well, one good thing that's come of "liberating" Iraq is that women are now almost universally wearing the burqa outside of Kurdish areas. I thought we weren't in there to encourage fundamentalism, which is exactly what we've done.

Nobody's talking about Afghanistan, ducky, because there's little going on there. And nobodies talking about Pakistan/Egypt/Yemen and 29/30ths of the rest of the "sovereign" Islamic countries because the solution to the "terror problem" does not lie in the deployment of US military forces.

Mr. Ducky and Farmer John,
Congratulations. I've heard rumors that you are to share this year's George Catlett Marshall Award.

Sounds great, Tad. I'm sure we'd both enjoy receiving it if either of us actually believed that the implementation of any one of our ideas wouldn't cause more chaos than it was intended to cure...

Yep we missed osama, for now. But to be fair, he's been obe. He's not the man in charge, we have bigger fish to fry. If there were any actionable intelligence on it, I'm sure we would try. I'm not convinced that he isn't dead in some cave of liver failure or AIDS.
He makes a great cudgel for our communist fellow citizens to criticize our country's efforts overseas though. Huzzah ducky!
Farmer John, I love your Jimmy Carter solution, that has always worked out so well! My old company Gunny spent a little time locked up in Iran back in the day. He was less than impressed with jimmuh's efforts at placating them. I'd be interested in hearing your ideas, honestly though.

My solution is simple. I make a deal with Moqtada al Sadr to make him president of Iraq. I then give him all the guns and bombs he needs to kick the cr*p out of Iran and bring Iran to heel under a secular-nationalist larger country I call New Persia. I then make sure that the 25 year young Khomeini veleyat al-faqih/guardianship of the jurist heresy dies by making the religious capital of the Shi'a revert to Najaf from Qom w/the "quietist" Ali al-Sistani in charge of Najaf. I then supply the sh*t out of the New Persians till they kick AQI, the Taliban, and the rest of those Moslem Brotherhood a-holes out of Jordan, Syria and Lebabon and forcing ALL of ObL's supplies from the Saudi's to run through Baluch/Pakistani territory. I then back the Iranian Baluch's with a promise of independence, and CUT the Osama's supply lines, entirely. And from that point on, the Sunni b*stards in Saudi, Egypt, Yemen and the Horn of Africa will have a little competition for control and leadership of the Islamic world, and I play the balance of powers game giving the Persians just enough weaponry to fight, but NOT enough to beat the Sunni/ Saudi led coalition.
I call it the "let the b*stards wipe each other out" strategy.
... and I don't think Jimmah would approve.
