Glad to get the 411 from a fellow nerd. I was curious on your take, as we came down on opposite sides of the fence on Superman Returns, though I finally saw where you were coming from once the Super-Euphoria wore off.
This makes me want to see the flick even more, which I didn't think was possible, actually.
Great review. I wish I could write movie reviews as well as you do. I loved this movie too and was pretty much blown away by Heath Ledger's performance. I was worried that it was being overhyped and that the Oscar buzz was, as you say, exploitive, but I agree that it's definitely a Oscar-worthy performance. This was, by far, the best superhero movie I've seen. Iron Man was a really fun movie, but Dark Knight had a depth to it that made it a really good movie period, not just a good superhero movie. And now I want to go see it again!
great review - glad you didn't try to do it in 4 sentences; this one definitely needed more. I have to disagree on your point about Daniel Plainview being a straight up villain though...
