Gravatar Lol! I salute your bravery and stand with you in pointing out this insidious phenomenon...I think privately there are many that share your thoughts....

Gravatar yay go Ian. i think that youre totally right, best post ever. The dog had it coming to him, have i missed the point here ?

Gravatar There is certainly an element of that in Bloglandia, but I think it stems from blogging as a means of self-validation. Sometimes you write a post which invites people to reassure you - we all need reassurance sometimes. Sometimes you want to blow your own trumpet and get recognition.

But there are some blogs where the sycophancy is more than a little tiresome...

*hopes he wasn't referring to Dear Witho*

Gravatar I wasn't referring to Dear Witho - don't worry !
I've no problem with people offering support or validation in people's comments - I certainly wouldn't want everybody telling me that I am full of s**t all the time in my comments !
My problem lies with those blogs where hardly anybody EVER disagrees with the blogger, and instead reads like a list of Yes Men (or women) with their oh-so-wonderful comments.

You might want to ignore this post anyway - I am aware that I have issues, and I am working through them

Gravatar we all have isues hun,
personally i know i'm a twat i don't need people to remind me its nice that they do, when they bother to comment.
i take it we're talking about blogs with copious amounts of comments and fans which certainly leaves mine out hahahaha
and yes people to tend to spat on rays don't they hahahaha

Gravatar I don't think it's so much the number of comments, more their nature that Ian is referring to. The way that certain bloggers "can do no wrong", if the congratulatory nature of their comments are to be relied upon...

I do know what you're saying Ian...

Gravatar I was gonna agree with you...but jeeez I don't wanna sound like i'm suckin up or anything...lol
Ermmmmm isn't it Friday????
WHERE'S THE GOD-DAMN LINKS!!!!
:-( Sorry was that too agressive???
x

Gravatar ...but I *like* everyone agreeing with me :^)...

...I disagree with this post entirely - no wonder you're not really popular like me :^)...

...do you know how many people I have *invented* just to make my comments seem real?...

...why, next you'll be telling me that hans and frog are real people :^)...

Gravatar I think that Ray's comments weren't a good example to pick Ian...

Personally I think they sometimes epitomise the very worst about blogland.

*runs and hides*

But, everyone has a right to put what they want on their own blog, as long as, in my opinion, it does no harm to any other individual (companies providing poor customer service excepted ), and especially to others in the local blogland community.

You don't have to read blogs like those you describe, do you? I don't. Well, I might do, but only because I want to.

Gravatar Evie - I shall have some links up this very afternoon. Thanks for not sucking up btw

Billy - I might be unpopular, with few friends and even less comments, but..er..um...where was I going with this point again.....

Gravatar BW - of course people have the right to put what they want on their blog. Doesn't mean I can't enjoy a good rant about it though

Gravatar It's weird when people post about the act of blogging. We moan about many things which annoy us on our blog, but if that thing is an aspect of blogging itself , other bloggers feel "got at", rightly or wrongly, and defensive. I know whenever I read a post bemoaning the quality of blogs (for example) I often get offended, even if there's no direct reference to mine.

Being essentially a pacifist, I shy away from posting about other blogs in a negative way on mine because I know it's an issue that is likely to get people's back up. I often come across a blog which says something I don't agree with. I will either leave a comment to that effect or, more usually, just go elsewhere...

Sorry, was I supposed to be making a point? I seem to just be wittering. I'll shut up now...

Gravatar Witho - don't take my post too seriously. I think we SHOULD all make an effort to be nice to each other.

However, it is possible to disagree with somebody without being abusive. I guess that's my point - the kind of blogs I was referring to rarely (if ever) have anybody commenting who disagrees with the blogger.

"Sorry Ian, but driving over that dog was cruel", for instance.

Go click on Zizzo (the next post up) and have a great Friday afternoon !

Gravatar We all have personal boundaries. Our on-line persona's are more concentrated versions of our 'real' selves and in some places that spills over If this was a real life group, I'd not bother going to the pub if someone I disliked was there, for example. Social etiquette would kick back in.

I recently wanted to criticise 'smoking women are sexy' but held back - my criticism was not about his subject or his way of dealing with his fetish - it was the invasion of privacy from his 'candid shots' that I objected to. But how long is a piece of string, I have photos on my textamerica site that have people in the background who might object as well but I don't rate that anywhere near as finding a picture of yourself on a fetish site. At the end of the day it's about letting go.

So if people want to pass away their days offering poorly spelt messages of support to equally dappy souls, then that's cool. Let 'em

Gravatar "...and in some places that spills over"

Yeah - usually Rays place

Gravatar I'm out of it honey so don't be wasting time and bytes trying to wind me up.

Gravatar Bloody hell, too many potential internet landmines to step on here.

I've stepped on too many already, my 'internet persona' is now walking around virtually with an eye patch, one good lung and on two blackened and smouldering stumps for legs.....

Gravatar of course scarlet has to be nice to me, she's my best mate, but shes the first to call me a twat or a fuckwit. no one ever sucks up to me......pmsl

Gravatar Why do you think Ian and myself stay away from each others sites, as Ian himself said if you cant say anything nice don't bother saying anything.
You know i'm joking really, I love your site. I think its really good .

Gravatar Lou Lou - you're great

Paper Doll - prepare for a DDOS attack. Either that, or I'll make your cuppa too strong later.

Gravatar Ian-no difference there then with the tea.

Gravatar "two blackened and smouldering stumps for legs.....'

yowza what an image! other than that, i've not got an opinion worth typing up.

Gravatar Vomits

Gravatar ...I've just re-read that comment made by someone called billy...what a git...I bet he thought it was funny when he wrote it but it reads as a load of pretntious twaddle...personally, if I was you ian, I'd get over to his blog and moan about him in his comments - if you can get a word in edgeways past all his sychophants :^)...

Gravatar I think you're so right. Utterly. None of us comment out of free will at all.
