Gravatar Belum baca artikel Dita -- so I don't know where she went with the argument.

But when we speak of "democracy" and the government "of the people, by the people, for the people," we will also be naive if we fail to incorporate the issue of the state's power into the discussion.

For example, we may want to consider whether such "democratic" policies would lead to political and economic repression. Further, what kind of "state" are we talking about here? Who are the rulers, and what are their interests? Are these "democratic" policies harmless?

And this idea that "pemerintah adalah 'kita'"... seems too foreign and out of reach. The state is the state. It is difficult to deny that it has interests of their own, and that it has "the means of repression." Or, it can also be that many of the state's interests are the ruling class's interests. Either way, the state is not "kita," at least it has never been. If one day the state can become "kita," that's great. But in the meantime, the challenge is to understand this "non-kita" state and to examine its penetrating influence on its people.

I'm not up-to-date when it comes to the development of Indonesian leftist movements. So I don't know what their recent objectives are and what their take on the issue of state is. This is just my 50 cents in response to your discussion.

Gravatar nYam: emang tujuannya bukan untuk meningkatkan taraf hidup kok. Cuma biar mereka bisa beli harga2 yg naik.. dgn menurunkan daya beli orang2 lain

intan: this is the copy paste of Dita's opinion. Enjoy Her argument is good, actually, and I don't have complain about it. I just borrowed some part of her article and "switch it" to my preferred direction

And in case you don't notice.. as Zilko has pointed out: Dita is not my object of cynical comment Of course, government - or the state - always has the interest of their own. And it is not wrong, technically. But in the case of Indonesia, in my opinion, the government has crossed the limit of "acceptable own interest" They've started to fatten their own ass - by sacrificing the poor people. Did you hear of the honorable member of DPR, also the husband of a dangdut singer, who is currently in jail for taking bribes? It is a common story amongst our honorable government. They get zillions of rupiah, while the people has to struggle to make the ends meet - with constantly increase prices.

As the victim of government's another failure (of the long list of failures) to lead us into welfare, I just try to sarcastically make a 'mocking rationalization' out of it Thanks for the 50cents anyway.. now I know how this article can mislead the people out there

Gravatar Ah, I see, so that's what you were trying to do. Sorry, I didn't get it.

Just to explain my point about the state's interests: in the discussion of the role of the state, the state's interests are hardly seen as something "good" or something that are beneficial for the people. They are usually considered harmful.

So, I am not endorsing the state's interests. I would certainly agree with you that the state -- in this case, Indonesian government -- has (if not always) crossed the line by sacrificing the have-nots.

Gravatar Ya gitu bodoh nya Wapres kita. Mosok kalau ada yg menentang kenaikan BBM (yg jelas2 gak setuju BLT) itu menghambat rejeki org miskin??

Dlm konteks apa dia ngeliat rejeki atau musibah? Yg asyik dia...bak sinterklas bagi2 duit (pamer buat 2009), lha yg ketiban sial rakyat melu2..dikasih 100 ribu trus melarat berkepanjangan gara2 nahan laper!

Tapi ya gituu...emg sdh kodratnya kalii pemimpin disini gandrung bgt mbodohi rakyat!

Gw siy berpendapat, kebijakan BLT itu jelas2 pembodohan luar biasa. Org2 ngemis ngantri2 nadahin tangan utk duit 100 ribu, yg sekibas mata sudah lgsg habis. Mental nya jd gak karu2an.

Pemerintah tahan berapa bulan siy nyanguin kyk gitu? Berdasar pengalaman kemarin kan cuma 3 bulan, habis itu ya lenyap! Liat aja, ntar pasti jg kayak gitu!

(supaya gak tambah banyak yg mati merana)

Gravatar intan: that's okay, I think this essay is not clear enough, anyway No wonder you can't get it. Not your fault

Yup! We are on the same boat here. Sadly, "harmful" to the people is the nature of the state But some states do it more smoothly than the others, I guess

Tapi.. lihat dong, kalo yg kayak gini digarap sama pemerintah, dioptimalkan, bukan gak mungkin jadi alternatif energi.

Kalo hemat energi (listrik), kan bisa disubsidi silang dgn BBM. At least itu bisa jadi satu pertimbangan. Jangan terus2an dibebankan ke rakyat melulu

Gravatar Gw aja lagi yg telmi, Mbakyu. =)

Some states are smoother -- kayak playboy, kali ya? =)

Gravatar Kalau gue jadi Yusuf Kalla abis ngomong gitu gue tambahin lagi:
