Another thing to do is talk on forums, chat rooms, with friends, or just pick a topic at random. For example, if I asked you to write about nylons, you probably could at length, even though it's probably not something you'd think to write about.
You have some good ideas. I've followed much of the same and now get 3,000-5,000 visitors per day (my humor site has been up for 3 months).
Another good tip - get a feed reader (bloglines is a good one) and add pretty much everyone that comments on your site (if you like their site of course). This way, you can read their stuff quickly without typing in a lot of addresses.

Here's another tip to easily create your blog content.
You read something. Read it one more time. You got it?
Now tell it to 3 different persons:
- Your boss > Sell the idea
- Your grand parents > Bring them up to date
- Your kid > Tell him in simple words
You get 3 different contents easily!
