Leave it to UVA to cross the one line that can have the Cathoic Flutie-toots sounding all gangsta:
---
O'Brien said the hit, which was replayed on the stadium scoreboard, fired up an otherwise sedate crowd.
It also fired up his team.
"Yeah, it got us angry," BC quarterback Quinton Porter said after the game. "It's the last time anybody takes a cheap shot on us."

Well-said. We've cursed Brad Butler, by the way.

You see, everyone doubted me the first fifty times I wrote, "God hates UVA football." Never has being so right felt so wrong. We're going to be the greater of two evils against FSU, fer cryin' out loud.

Your team is dirty and as far as I'm concerned, your not welcome at Chestnut Hill anymore. We should have beat your ass by 20, if our kicker didn't suck so bad. And we had 2 players ejected, while your "But-boy" was laughing at us. That was the lowest of all lows, nice program you got down there! I'd say good luck the rest of the way, but I hope you lose every game from now on.

You also should've beat Syracuse at home last year, but sometimes, things just don't work out the way they're supposed to.
Look, your team happens to be in an enviable position in the realm of sympathy. Don't blow all of your indignance in one day, especially since this is far from being a Jack Tatum/Darryl Stingley or Todd Bertuzzi/Steve Moore situation. Your two guys didn't exactly win any brownie points with the way they reacted, and moreover, Kiwi was probably more frustrated with the fact that Butler had been in his head all game.
Most responses I've got thus far from BC people have been class enough to recognize that the actions of Brad Butler don't necessarily reflect on the University as a whole. You probably wouldn't like it if I said that BC people don't know how to use contractions or proper sentence structure based on your comment alone, would you?

Ian, please ignore this dickhead. He clearly did not read your post. Both schools have produced their fair share of a--holes over the years. Butler and this dude are just two recent examples.

Wow, that was a hell of a rant. Sounds like you don't like Pete Gillen too much....
I've always thought it's important for state schools to recruit their home state. It provides a steady pipeline of talent and gives the team an identity. VA isn't Florida, but there's enough talent to provide a solid base for 2 teams.
In Northern VA the same 3 teams are good every year - Westfield, Centreville, and Robinson - and Tech seems to dominate their recruiting. I don't know if UVA gets anybody out of there. Obviously, the real gold is the Hampton Roads area and Tech seems to win there also.
I also agree about your scheduling thoughts. When you're building a program - like a Rutgers or a UConn - you want to schedule as many patsies as possible to try to consistently get into bowls. When you're an established program trying to become elite or sometimes-elite, you need at least one marquee OOC game to toughen up the team and get the program into the national eye.
On the other hand, some of the mid-tier ACC teams like UVA, MD, Clemson, NC State might need to readjust their exepectations because the ACC has become an very tough and deep conference.

By all accounts, Gillen's a good guy, but I would've thought he would've served as a cautionary tale to our AD on the topic of long-term contracts based on incremental success. Gillen took over a program that completely bottomed out because Jeff Jones liked to recruit guys like Courtney Alexander. I think we had four scholarship players in 1998. Two years later, Gillen makes a surprising run and gets us to the NCAA as a #5, where we promptly lose to the Zags. He's rewarded with a 10-year, $9 million contract. That's an entire decade for getting an ACC team to March Madness.
After the extension, Gillen's teams became notorious for its failure to develop talent, midseason collapses, and achieving stratospheric rankings early in the season, only to end up in the NIT.
Likewise, Groh gets a $1 MILLION RAISE only months after being outcoached and outclassed at the MPC Computers Bowl. Just something to think about.

My roommate and I were watching the BC-UVA game and were pulling for UVA to beat down BC...then there was the Butler play. Definitely the wrong guy to hit with a cheap shot, after the whistle, off the ball, and while the guy was noticably limping.
And speaking of Olsen getting some playing time...think the brothers might be regretting their transfers from ND? Then again, Chris would have the same eligibility as Brady Quinn, so it might never have worked out there.

Hey, sucks for UVA man, it always seems like "this is their year" to get it done, and they always fall short. But hey down here in Baton Rouge Les Miles is pulling an Al Groh and completely wasting the studs, so ya'll aren't the only ones who want their coach out of town.

Phew...maybe it's because I'm from an ACC background, but whenever I see something like "Death Valley Saturdays," I'm assuming it's a Clemson guy looking to pile on. Keep up the good stuff with your blog.
I would say Les Miles is actually a combo of Groh and Welsh, in that he respectively manages to waste talent and blow huge leads. To Miles' credit, at least he's wasting talent that other people recruit.
